Hi, I am an occasional mobile web user. I am on AT&T and am planning to get the Blackberry pearl 8110, without the data plan. However, when I went to the store, I was told this.
1. Blackberry devices handle web pages differently than other phones, hence even a single webpage will use up a lot of bandwidth (kilobytes), and I will be charged more. Hence, its advised that I don't access any webpages on a blackberry, without a data plan.
I use the web once or twice in a month, for traffic and weather etc.
My question:
1. What's the difference in the blackberry accessing web, and other non PDA phones.
2. Is there a way I can configure the blackberry device to view the web pages like a non-PDA phone, where I don't use up a lot of kilobytes.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

if you are ATT and have a BB with no plan it cant get online.
no data plan no access.the data plan has the data access point.if the plan is removed so is the access point.
its not really the BB device itself. its the server

In responce to your post I have Verizon Wireless and I know that with them Blackberry has a policy that they wont sell a phone without the data plan. You can buy the phone but it wont work unless you have that specific plan. I know this because I just got the RIM BB Curve 8330. The plans an extra 30 a month, but so far it has been worth it.
