Make sure battery is fully charged.
do your back upin SHX format.
Just turn on fonr normal then connect to PC you don't have to but it in boot loader mode.
I flash with simcard and memory card in before, did not hurt anything but you can take them out if you like

I fully charged the battery. I then started FB, after that I plugged the USB cable into phone then other end of cable into PC.

I set the format to SHX and set the profile to ATT. I selected all the code groups and pressed the read data button.

A window opens up with the info below.

Operation start
FB
Read data: C:\Program Files\ etc etc.

Turning phone to Flash-mode.
Sending the loader.
Done.
Executing Jump.
Error!
Reading the code group: CG1
Error!
" ": CG2
Error!

The rest are Errors

Creating the SHX file.

Operation end
----------------------------------------------
On the phone as it transfered over to bootloader mode, showed this.

CRITICAL ERROR
FEBE
003A
-----------------------------------------------
Not sure what happened.

I wanted to backup new phone before backing up old.

I tried plugging phone into PC first then starting FB, but got same result.

I have Moto Phone Tools installed first then later I installed FB. (not sure if they would conflict)

Is there any other settings in FB that needs configed?

I may have found the cause. I been trying to use ATT profile and getting bad results. So I decided to try the Cingular profile and it worked.

I believe the reason is the ATT profile works with loader 3.06, while the Cingular profile works with loader 3.02.

Both of my phones use bootloader ver. 3.02. Would I need to upgrade the versions in my phones from 3.02 to 3.06 in order to use the ATT profile?

While I wait for your reply, I will google search the file just in case you say it is needed.

After backup of new phone I connect old phone to PC using different usb port. This time it installed drivers, FB autoselected (International) profile so used to backup and it failed, also failed with (ATT) profile.

I then used (Cingular) profile and it backed up successfully. I charged batt to full power and connect new phone to first usb port, I selected (Cingular) profile, selected write data, pressed select backup file button, picked the right backup file and checked the box next to select all, then pressed the write data button.

The phone was flashed successfully. Now my new phone looks and works like my old phone.

You have made me a very happy person. I want to thank you so much for all your help. It has been a pleasure chatting with you.

-----------------------------------------------------
BTW I uploaded the backup files to the net. Would you like me to email you the links to the files or PM using plain text links in case someone could use them. Let me know.

THANKS. icon_biggrin.gif
