Another thread on this forum attracted me here to discuss text messaging charges and what we can do about it.

Cell phone companies are charging you everytime somebody gets hold of your phone number and decides to send you anything by means of text or picture, whether you ask for it or not, or whether you even read it or not! That is fraudulant.

You may think that it''s only a couple of bucks a month, but really, think about it this way: What if the mailman came to your door annd said, "Here is all the unsolicited junk mail that you didn't want or need, or won't even read, and here is your bill for it!" You wouldn't stand for that at all! But that is what is happening on your cell phone every month!

We have got too stop it! We have got to report this to the Better Business Burea. You can contact the BBB and report this fraudulany activity on the part of the phone companies. There is a website for the BBB to submit an online complaint, so you don't even have to pick up a pen.

I tried to submit a weblink to the site, but this forum'ss settings will not allow me to do that until I have at least 10 posts. I will post that weblink as soon as I get 10 posts, but in the meantime, you can Google BBB complaints.

I just learned on another thread on this forum that other cell phone companies will lock out text and internet capabilities on whatever phone you choose in your plan. That tells me that Suncom/T-Mobile can do the same. But they won't!

When you call them, they have a recording that says, ""the customer comes first." They don't practice what they preach.

There is a serious problem with a company that refuses to eliminate a service you don't need or want, and then charge you for it when someone else decides to send you something that you didn't ask for.

So, what I get out of this is that appearantly Suncom/T-Mobile's equipment, technology, and technicians are inferior to other cell phone companies.

Someone might ask, "why don't you, and anyone else annoyded with text charges just get a text plan?"

I could, but here's the thing. Ever heard of extortion? It is the practice of forcing you to buy something you don't want or need, like the famous "protection racket," where goons come and tell you you have to buy "insurance" from them, or they will beat you up.

That is what I compare this sitiuation to. It is as if they are trying to force you to add more to your monthly bill by means of this "protection racket."

Besides, I have 4 phones on my plan. That will add up to a sizable charge every month, for something that the consumer shouldn't have to worry about anyway.

I did, with enough complaining get them to remove web and picture messagiing cappabiilities from the phone in question.
Still text continues to be a problem.

I'm actually very interested in this.
I don't think it's fair for a company to charge me for incoming messages.
I don't think it's fair for the companies to charge me to send a message to my wife and charge her to receive it. Especially since we are on the same family plan.

Texting within the same providers should be free, just as talking on the phone is. It should even minimize the resources used for the provider.

I don't think blocking texting alltogether is an option because I do send the occasional text.
I don't think paying $5 a month, or $60 a year, or $120 over the life of a 2 year contract is worth it (not even taking into account all of the taxes) when I don't even use $5 worth of messages when charged individually.

Post the link since you now have the 10 required minimum posts.

To spam is to hit a site or inbox with advertisements. I am trying to talk about a subject that was already introduced by others on another thread, which I found by googling "how to disable text messaging," and now I want to discuss that very subject.

After reading other posts I have found that I am not the only one getting their butt cooked with text messaging charges, and somebody needs to do something about it! In fact, the news has been lit up around here with this very subject.

I have found the Better Business Bureau's direct weblink to complain about cell phone companies, and I am just waiting my probationary 7 days out before it will allow me to post any weblinks.

My hope is that once the system will alllow me to post that weblink, others will havve the neccessary tools to make their voice heard as well.

I have waited my 7 days and made my minimum 10 posts before the system will allow me to post a weblink, so here is the Better Business Bureau direct weblink to make complaints online:

https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/complaintlink.aspx

If enough people complain about this, the cellphone companies will find that they have to offer services that fill OUR needs instead of theirs. I am tired of these companies shoving whatever they want to down my throat, and II am sure that there are others who feel the same.

They sign you to a contract, then you are stuck to a service you hate for two years. The 15 day trial period is not enough time to really try out their service. There should be a minimum of 30 days, or more, so you have a chance to try out their service completely, and even see your first bill, to determine whether there is going to be any surprizes. If they gave you what you wanted to start with, they wouldn't have to extort you into keeping their service, by having you sign any contract. I have had cell phones for 12 years, and I am fed up! The consumer should be the boss, not the cellphone comapny.

I just incurred $20 on my T-mobile bill due to unsolicited third party marketing company, SJA mobile sending me 2 text messages advertising a website. Each message cost $9.99. I could not believe it! This is more outrageous than getting messages from my friends for $.15!
