The T-Mobile G1 Android phone will be the iPhone killer, with no doubt. Already selling more than 70,000 units (official insider #) it is quickly surpassing expectations. That doesn't compare with the iPhone, but lets look at the functionality of the G1 to see where the flaw in the iPhone is.

Right now, you either have to void your iPhone war, which I'm sure unlocking it does also, by modding the platform so you can get end-user programs, or select from the hum-drum of programs available that only Jobs approves of (well not personally, you know what I mean). The G1 has that ability as the prime function of the phone. I cannot tell you the ease of use this phone has, the beauty of how the touch application works, nor the ease of use writing anything with it. You just have to experience it. I can say the keyboard makes it easier than scrolling to select a letter, or the way the 'not supposed to yet mention' samsung phone has the same typing function as any other phone, 2abc type. I modded my Razr2 so I could do things I couldn't originally, like simply access the bankofamerica website or get google maps, voiding my warranty completly, yet I won't with the G1. The only thing that will shelter the G1 is the limit of the worlds imagination.

The best aspect and revelation the G1 will bring is the Android op system. This will not simply be limited to the G1, yet be available in the near future on phones ranging from rinky dink nokia bar phones to powerhouse HTC phones. Taking that sick customizability to any phone available to the consumer makes the android software a mobile users best friend, tearing down the walls of connecting with friends, family, businesses, etc. America is so far behind the advances of cell tech than China or Japan or the rest of that side of the world, but our foucses are different than video dating (china) apps.

Really, I think the G1 will be a nice addition to the pda, evolution touch screen phones and the operating platform is going to help shape the wireless arena for the next 5 years to come. With the sale of the 700 mhz network and the 25 block of that network the FCC is planning for free nationwide wifi, the release of NGMN (downloads of 170 mbs) - the wireless world is changing with lightning speed.

I'll be getting the data card. i can't wait. i call every week lol. i want to replace my evdo card already. and the g1 has some good ideas, but i still think they need to be refined. the open source will help out a bit. but alot of you are forgetting the most important thing. how well does it work as a phone.

that's a very good point. I am very surprised at the preorder numbers considering no one has been able to basically touch the phone yet.

I never trust a company's first attempt at anything. it's like saying if ford started making computers and made them look cool and put alot of media hype behind it would you buy it without even testing it? foolish.

I have the G1 and the call quality rocks. I am usually skiddish about a first run product but google has worked their asses off over this one and I have to say, I'm in love. The web browsing on it is amazing, the keypad took some getting used to, but I have to have keys. Touch screens alone frustrate me. If you want a 100 percent touch device though check out the brand new samsung behold. 5 megapixel camera and 3g. Now, it doesn't have wifi to back it up, but if you are in a 3g area you totally don't need it.

That's why i like the touch pro. quad band, evdo and hsdpa capable, and wifi. full touch screen plus a large qwerty slide out keyboard. now even verizon is picking this phone up and adding it to it's line up, leaving t mobile the only major carrier not to adopt this phone, which they might do too. this phone is the one and only true iphone killer. i been waiting for a phone like this.
