Help! We do not currently have a cell phone. The coverage in our area is terrible and we've not seen the need to be up to date. Have no idea where to even start.

However, we are going to be travelling all over the US heading east from Ely, NV through the midwest Kansas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, to the east coast and back going as far south as Texas and coming back home. We want to have a cell phone for emergencies and to keep in touch with people as we go etc. We will be out wandering the countryside for about a month and that's a long time to be out of touch. Anyone have any suggestions as to service and phones to consider? The most flexible? The best coverage? Least hassle? Internet service is a nice to have but most towns and hotels have a way to connect to the internet now so I'm not as worried about that. Any advice would be appreciated. Don't plan to use the cell phone except for travel after that.

get a prepaid if its only for a month. check coverage at the carriers website as compared to where you are going and take the one that is best for those areas

Since you're traveling a long distance let me tell you my situation. icon_smile.gif I have T-mobile and my signal was intermittent as I traveled back and forth from Houston to El Paso. All I ever did was complain because I couldn't get any calls when I was driving in rural areas. icon_mad.gif

One day I was on the internet trying to find a solution for my problem and stumbled upon a company called UnwiredSignal. com. Their website was filled only with ways to get a signal in your home, car, anywhere you may need it. It blew my mind. icon_w00t.gif

I looked around the website for a bit and before I purchased anything I called them directly. The guy I spoke with was very knowledgeable and friendly. They suggested that I get a wireless mobile kit called the 801201 B, its dual band, works for any provider except nextel, nothing is connected directly to your cell phone. This kit can reach a tower up to 50 miles away! Now I get a signal in places I didn't get one before!

I am very satisfied with their product that I would recommend them to any one! If they helped me, they can help you too. icon_biggrin.gif
