I've read a few reviews but choosing a new phone is a daunting task. I require only a few features:
1. long battery life is foremost
2. a qwerky keyboard or similar would be nice even though I don't text that often
3. Clam shell design is important so I can't accidentally dial out
4. Good receiver sound so I can clearly hear who I'm talking to
I don't need bluetooth, push-to-talk and I don't web-surf using my phone. My contract with ATT expires soon and I plan to switch to Verizon basic service. Can you help me choose the perfect phone.

I recommend the Chocolate 3 (although it doesn't have the qwerty keyboard you seek), simply for the sound quality is decent on it, reception as well, and battery isn't half bad. Also a clamshell

Thanks.looks good. I'd be interested in Chaperone in another year or two since I have 10 and 12 year old kids.and Navigator would be a plus since we do out of town competitve swimming. Finding hotels and restaurants easily would be a plus. What about Chocolate 3's endurance. Can it hold up under normal wear and tear? Can this phone/mp3 player be used in the gym/treadmill? Thanks. Any other phone suggestions would also be appreciated.

You can get a G'z0ne phone for durability, but I think you'll be more pleased overall with the quality of the bells & whistles and regular use of the Chocolate 3. G'z0ne just offers far more durability than a cashual phone user needs, for the most part. EnV 2 is a decent choice as well, especially if you want the qwerty keyboard.

Speaking of durability.I know the new mp4 players with touch screens are not well made. They break easily. What about touch screen phones? Are they dependable, durable?
I like the Chocolate 3 you mentioned. I also like the looks of Samson Glyde. But I know nothing about Glyde's sound quality and battery life. Is there a particular battery I should seek in a phone for long battery life between charges?

The Glyde will have decent talk time for the battery, and just-ok stand-by time. Reception is lacking unfortunately, I would certainly utilize that 30 day grace period and travel with the device to see if it'd work for you. Sound quality is alright, but reception is a pretty key function in my opinion. If you like cameras on devices the Dare has the best camera VZW phones have currently, but no keys and is all touch.
