In January, I renewed my contract and upgraded my phone to the LG Shine. Service in Missouri was fine. I moved home to Los Angeles two weeks ago and now my reception all over town is horrible. Dropped calls. No reception. Calls cutting in and out. I have tested friends phones on ATT next to my phone and they regularly have 3-4 bars more reception than I do. I have turned my phone on and off so that it can update itself to the local towers, but still get crappy to no reception
I would like to take the phone into the store and see if they'll replace it. Is this something ATT will help me out with or am I SOL?
Thanks in advance!

You are not SOL! Call AT&T and have them send you the OTA's. Then power cycle your device. If that doesn't work have someone troubleshoot your phone. Find out if it is an issue with the device itself or a network issue. (can't see it being a network issue in LA with the amount of towers there). Ask them to send you to the tech dept to see if there is something tech can do to get the phone working properly. Find out if the device is still under warrenty and you can get it replaced if it is an issue with the device. You have options.use them!

Madison 101,
Thanks for replying! I will definitely take your advice, but before I get started, what is OTA?
It must be a device issue; I mean this is LA! There should be a billion and one towers!

An OTA is an Over The Air Activation. Basically what it does is re-register info from the network to your phone. At least, that's what they told us it did when I worked at AT&T. And don't worry, you won't lose any information when you they complete that. What will happen, they'll send the OTA, you'll get a notice that it was sent, and then you'll need to power cycle your phone.
Also, with the LG Shine, keep in mind that the back of the phone is solid metal. It may be messing with your reception.although, I have the same phone, and I've not had any problems with reception.
