How does a company like LG "lock" a phone to a specific provider? I couldn't find anything on google on how it's actually done. I want to know exactly what they implement inside of the phone to create this "lock". Where is this "lock" located in the phone? Is it in the current firmware? The reason i'm asking is becasue i believe there's a certain agorithom each company uses to "lock" a phone to a specific provider. And i would like to break a agoritom. I believe it's a mathematical agorithum becasue at@t lg phones and verizon phones have VERY similar unlock codes. If anyone can help me out here it'll be highly appreciated thanks

Try visiting Howard's Forum. There's a lot of this sort of thing going on there.

the "lock" is a spec issued by the "provider" to the "manufacturer" before it goes into "production" and once certain "criteria" are met the "device" may be "unlocked" by the "provider" for "free".
if you are relying on google for the magic info to create a generic subsidy unlock for any phone I am quite sure said company would NOT make that info public. that would be like the military publishing its crypto key code. it just aint gonna happen
some devices are a code unlock based on the esn/imei of the device. others are a software unlock (a patch) an others are a combination of the two.
