My girlfriend has a SCH-r430 from cricket. I am trying to get it so that I can talk to her while I am at work. I am not supposed to text with my phone. Normally that isn't a problem because I know how to make the emails work as texts and I also use MSN to text too. Nothing seems to be working for this phone though. The only alternative I could think of is an IM client. Is there a decent one for this phone that I can purchase and how would I do that? I don't do much with samsungs. Only BB and Motos.
Question is, Does your service provider support and allow it. Call their customer support and talk to a tech, not a regular customer service person for that answer.
Does the IM option appear anywhere in the phones menu? under "messaging", "connections", "options"?
Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend spoke with a rep and they said that they don't support the whole IM thing. The thing that I don't get is she has unlimited data plan so I should be able to install a 3rd party application that will use the data plan to send and recieve the messages. But I do know that this phone is not java compatible so will that be a problem?
I actually found out why it wasn't working before, you have to send it as a picture message to the email address. So it works for the time being but I would rather have an IM on her phone so I can have instant access to her and know when she is online. Thanks.

Yes non Java phone won't work with 3rd party software that will require it.
No problem. Take it easy.

Well At this point I am wondering if there are any Instant message applications that don't require JAVA.

Sadly, I think not. I haven't run across any. I would say if it's that important, you both should switch to a phone that does.
