ok. i have searched the web and saw many good articles on how to get mp3 files to be used as ringtones, but none worked for me.
my problem, i just lost a phone due to water damage and got a replace through my company but this time i got a MOTORAZR V3xx with ATT.
i then uploaded my mp3 ringtones i have saved using MPT to my new phone, the mp3's show up in the music folder. no matter what i do i can't assign the mp3's i uploaded as ring tones to contacts or contact groups. i called moto and they said it was by design on this phone due to ATT! that sucks! i paid for these tones and have them saved why can't i reuse them if i get a replacement or new phone.
i even used the articles refering to p2k commander. i looked on my phone for the .db audio dbase files that everyone tells me to delete and they are not there!? supposedly you are to upload the mp3 files to the phone then delete these 2 files and power phone off and on and it rebuiltd the files to include your mp3s. but with my version of phone these files are not there. seems this phone has a different file or layout of files.
i am out of ideas at this point. i even tried creating an html file put it on my website space i have along with the .mp3 file and d/l it to the phone, it d/l but i was stuck in the same situation .
the file si 128kps mp3 and is 374KB in size.
so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great thanks.

well i found my fix. apparently there is a strict 300KB limit on the mp3 file size. it will not see my mp3 ring tones i had unless there were under 300KB. so i d/l a shareware app that will reduce the size of mp3 files. i reduced them to 64k kbps which dropped them to below 300KB, most were 300KB to 500KB. they where short snippets from songs being used as ring tones .
i tested one it worked, then i copied all of them over to my phone. but i got some out of memory error? the phone still had plenty of memory in the mb's? so then i deleted all the ring tone mp3's that came with the phone and moved my mp3's over, i had about the same number of ringtones as the ones that came with the phone. seems there is also some limit on either the number of mp3's you can have or a total size limit of ring tones.
either way i have my 10 or so ring tones on my phone now and it works fine.

Glad to hear that. This question shows up a lot here and I understand why. Motorola doesn't exactly splash that little tidbit about the file size around. They should.
