My husband is getting strange texts and he called at&t about it today(this is about the 11th time this has happened). A year ago he had a male prostitute call him looking for him saying he owes him money from a hook up on craigslist. Odd we were out of town when this "texting" took place. Yesterday he had 63 incoming and out going text messages that he never sent nor recieved. It is always when he is sleeping. At&t has been horrible at getting this resolved. I have been getting text messages from his phone now asking me too meet him while I am talking to him on the phone. He darn near lost his job when a text was sent to his boss(it wasn't a very nice one either). At&t said they cant clone a phone. Odd the first time we had this problem they said he had 5 cloned phones now since it is keeping up it can't happen? I also 6 months ago had a guy texting me telling me to stop calling and texting him. Funny it was when I had my Razr. Since I switched to the LG Shine I have not had anything strange happen. We have been with At&t/Cingular since 1988 and I am VERY unhappy with how they wont give us a strait answer about this. But yet you miss your payment by a day oh they certainly call you about that. I don't know what to do anymore besides cancel my service and go with verizon.

PRESENT TECHNOLOGY

in the phone you have is a sim card. that sim card is your phone number. if you look on the sim there is a 20 digit number. that is unique to that phone number.there can only be one sim active per phone number.if you change your sim the old one is deactivated and cannot be used again.

OLD TECHNOLOGY

analog phones could be cloned. ATT hasnt activated an analog phone in 5 years. they stopped supporting analog service 2 years ago much to the shigrin of several hundred people who didnt want digital service

LOGICAL EXPLANATION

you are being scammed. or hubby isnt giving you the whole story

RESOLUTION

call the police or question hubby a little more closely

Elmo's right on, as always.

Your best bet is to change your phone numbers. And if it happens again after that, then unfortunately, you probably have a problem with your husband and his honesty. Sad to say, but it happens.

Good luck,

So when hes sleeping hes texting these people? So no loser with no job in his moms basement has figured out how to clone a new cell phone? Look on the internet. (i found a website to do it)Plus they told us that they sell a "card" that you can buy. I can use it to call my mom and have it come up the white house. Goggle that. So from last year to now they changed the phones? i don't buy this one bit.

Okay, then you solve the problem. And keep believing what you read on the internet. I wonder where the guy selling those "cards" lives.

Whatever.

What she was refering to is a called a caller id spoofer and are very real. however, even if someone spoofs your caller id it should not and will not appear on your phone bill.

Yamahagirly, did you get anything resolved yet?

My first thought is to just walk into an AT&T store and have them change your SIM card. If they question it just insist and say you've been the victim of fraud and you must have it changed.
