I bought a Sidekick Slide for my daughter at Christmas 2007. Two to three months later the 'hard reset' problem started occurring. We eventually contacted TMobile for help.
First, they tried to sell me the $20 per month data plan claiming that would fix the problem. I told them the data plan had nothing to do with the phone resetting. They eventually agreed to send a replacement phone (refurbished). This was in June.
Needless to day, the problem is still occurring. I called TMobile again this week and again, they tried to sell me a data plan. The customer service rep actually told me the problem would not occur if I had the data plan. I told her that is deceptive advertising if you sell the Sidekick Slide knowing there will be problems if you don't buy the data plan. Her response was "Well, I hate to tell you this but lots of companies do it".
I insisted on talking with a supervisor. I was on-hold for a half hour before she finally answered. At first, she too tried to sell me a data plan but eventually backed off. I told her I wanted the phone replaced with either a Sidekick LX or 2008. She said they couldn't do that per policy but they will send a replacement since it's still under warranty.
Now, I have to take the phone to a UPS store and have it sent to them. If we need/want a replacement phone in the meantime, we'll have to go to our local TMobile store and get a loaner. (They sent me a replacement phone first the last time it was replaced but according to the supervisor, they're not supposed to do that so she wouldn't.)
Has anyone had any success in getting the defective Sidekick Slide replaced? And if so, what is the "secret"? Is there a special number or a particular person/department I should talk to?
BTW, I called Motorola this morning and they said send it to them and they will repair it since it's under warranty. Does anyone know if the Motorola repair will get rid of the 'hard reset' problem?
Thank you in advance for any and all tips and information.

I hate to say it but your problem would be fixed by adding the sidekick plan. the phone was designed to operate on the internet 24/7 and without that plan it isn't going to properly work.
it has always been a t-mobile policy to send a sidekick in before a replacement is sent out.

The HW 6.8 models had issue with restarting, simply because the battery didn't fit in the device. Your device should either be a reworked sidekick slide or a newer model. Reworked doesnt mean "refurbished". You can tell if your sidekick slide has been reworked by the 4 plastic bumpers on the bottom of the back cover, if you see those with HW 6.8 on the Bar Code Sticker on the back of the Device, means you have a reworked device.
As far as shipping the device out before recieving, that is exclusive to the Sidekick, not the slide, ALL Sidekicks IF you do not have insurance.
As far as replacing the Sidekick Slide for a 2008 or LX. They are newer models with newer features. (ie. video) Kind of like saying, "This Regular Television I have doesn't work, I would like a 42 inch Flat screen."

Then they must be giving away free flat screens.

T-Mobile is really taking the right steps in this whole defective-Motorola-Sidekick-Slide fiasco. After suspending sales of the Motorola-sourced Sidekick, named for the Slide mechanism that’s causing all those hard-resets and data dumps, T-Mobile has announced that they’ll be replacing Sidekick Slides with its larger, more expensive brother - the Sidekick LX. T-Mobile has confirmed that the Sidekick Slide’s fault lies in an “issue relating to the battery contacts. Motorola also has identified and tested a solution which it will implement for existing devices, and incorporate into newly manufactured ones.”
If that faulty slide-mechanism is keeping you from fully enjoying the Sidekick-ness of your Sidekick Slide, head on in to a T-Mobile store and grab your Sidekick LX replacement handset. T-Mobile is offering the straight-up trade to all Sidekick Slide owners, or, if this whole broken Sidekick experience has left you with a bad taste in your mouth, you can choose to exchange the Sidekick Slide for credit towards another handset. Of course, if you just can’t imagine life without your slimmer (than the Sidekick LX) Sidekick Slide, you can just wait it out and hope that Motorola issues a fix right-quick.

I just relpaced my 4 sidekick slide.and they did not tell me that you can uprage to a diffrent phone if you replace 2 or more in 90 days .the first time it happend.and now they will not replace it with the lx .believe me i was on the phone with them for 4 hours.that offer was for 2007 the first time it got pulled.i just feel that they know this phone is a peace of crap and the keep giving it back to us until they run out.they know this phone is crap and they should own up to it and replace them.this is my first bad experience with t-mobile i have to say that i am disappointed.i have to keep getting the shitty piece of crap and sending it in and calling the reps that dont know what they are doing.nope you are stuck with it unless you replace it 2 or more times in 90 days if they even let you do that.
