text messaging isnt currently enabled on my phone (or plan, im not sure which it is), is there any way to "hack" or modify my phone to make text messaging work?

I'm gonna make a stretch and say no, it's a carrier thing. You'll need to add a texting plan to your phone plan.ASSuming that your phone is text-capable.

Yes, it is indeed very much text-capable.
So you'll have to call AT&T and have text messaging to your plan.
