I've discovered that Verizon had Nokia disable the ability to upload ring tones and wallpaper from the Nokia Software Suite
I spoke to Verizon first and they had me talk to Nokia, the support manager at Nokia informed me (after a 1/2 hour with a tech trying to figure out the problem with uploads) that Verizon had requested that the feature be turned off in the Firmware. I can only assume that Verizon wants people to use the "Get it Now" feature to download tones, etc. through their service @ $1.99/tone!
I found 2 other Mobile Media Browsers, Oxygen and MobiMB, but only MobiMB seems to support the 3589i. MobiMB is US $25+ while the Nokia Software Suite is free. I'm miffed, to say the least, that they would shut off a feature in something I "own" to try and force me to use/pay for something that I should get, and the manufacturer has provided, for free!

Hey, I'm miffed as well. Is there anyway we can get organized and force Verizon to stop doing this and tell us how to fix it to get downloading back?
How about if we can get everyone that has Verizon and is not on a long contract, or whose contract is about to expire to demand changes or they go elsewhere????
I've signed up for two years so I am stuck.
Anybody with another idea? Or is there someone from Verizon that know how to change it or gind out why if it is not greed?

I have the 3589i with Verizon and I've been able to upload wallpaper using the image converter, but can't do the ringtone upload or the application upload.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply post. Sounds like ringtones are difficult. One reply I got in the past said you had to rename midi file as , only, I think. I am assuming you are talking about using the cable to hook up to your computer to upload. Is that correct?
It would be great if we can get files somewhere and put all the information about Nokia 3589i and Verizon so others could view it. Any suggestions?
Thanks again.

I got the MobileMB and I've used it to upload ringtones without any problem. It's as easy as opening the MobileMB window and opening your explorer window and doing a drag and drop or copy and paste. I haven't figured out the game thing yet. I can get them to the phone but I can't figure out how to get them to play. Oh yeah I am using the Dku5 cable to upload to the phone.

Rockrat,
Good to know it will work. I don't need to change the ringtones but it really frustrated me that I couldn't do it. I didn't want to buy the DKU5 cable unless I knew it would.
Next question; where is the cheapest place to buy the DKU5 cable??? Is there a forum or website that is specifically set up for Nokia 3589i owners with Verison service? It would be a good place to put ringtones and graphics that we make for others to use.
I contacted Verizon about uploading ringtones, etc, and they said they restrict it so they can assure only items they can guarentee would work with their service. Is that a bunch of hooey or what? They are guarenteeing that people pay money for stuff using their Get It Now program.
Okay, my ranting is over.....Thanks again.

I learned if you downloand the Nokia 3586i PC Software, you can then upload ringtones to the 3589i phone. It worked with mine and it stands to reason since the phones are the same, it's just the softwared and the "Verizon" logo that makes the difference. This will probalby work with thei 2588i (Sprint) model as well.

Anyone have any new updates on how to hack this Verizon curse, how to update the phones firmware, etc etc??

MobiMB works!
Well...I know I'm answering my own question here...but last night after all my reading & posts I tried LogoManager's MobiMB and successfully transferred my own custom images and midi files and was then able to successfully use them as Wallpapers and Ringtones on my Nokia 3589i from Verizon. You can get MobiMB from here:
http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/products.php?id=51
Two things I'd like to do but haven't been able to yet, so if anyone has info please let me know.... #1) MobiMB has a feature to allow you to set a particular graphic as your "startup logo" but i've yet to get that feature to work correctly (here again, could be because of the Verizon factor). #2) While on the main screen of my display (for example the default screen if I press the red "end call" button) - the onscreen text display reads "Verizon" - on my old phone I could change this, but can't figure out how to with this Nokia 3589i. Anyone know how?? THANKS!
