I have had the new Iphone 3g since July. I did not port a number over. This is a new service, new number for me. I am able to send a text message to anyone and they receive it. However I am only able to receive text messages from other Iphone users and Cricket users. I have talked to both AT&T and Apple numerous times and they both tell me my phone and service is fine and that it is on the other carriers end. It is very frustrating to have such a "grand" phone but not use all the functions that you are paying for. Has anyone figured out a fix for this yet? Tech support is no help. And of course when my son calls Verizon to ask them about it they tell him it is a AT&T problem. go figure.

I wouldn't say as expected, but I would say that it is more likely that it is At&t's network or phone, and not everyone else's. Considering everyone else's works with each other, and they've been in the game longer, I think this is an issue that Apple or At&t should be looking to solve. It is most likely the phone itself, and not the network, because most other phones including At&t's work with each other. When troubleshooting a problem, the simplest answer is the most likely, and in this situation, I think it's on the phone, and Apple should, and may already be working on it. However it is common of customer service, to say it's someone else's fault.
