Ok, so I currently have a Sprint Power Pack plan for $39.99 with a powersource phone, I'm eligible for $75 at the moment. I never use my walkie-talkie anymore and want to sign up for a $49.99 plan and get a phone with no walkie talkie/PTT.
Well I was told "NO" when I walked into the store. "we don't do that" I called customer service and she told me that I have to Upgrade my phone if I want to get a new phone and plan. I want to sign up for another 2 years! But I don't want to pay $175 for a phone that's being offered at $29.99 online when I'm already going to be giving Sprint an extra $10 a month (or $120 a year/$240 for both years) I don't think it's fair that if I'm willing to sign up for more money per month that I have to pay more money than other people for a Katana Lx. I'm very close to terminating altogether and signing up with Verizon for a FREE phone that does even more than the Katana LX even though I won't use those features just because I am pissed!
Is there any way that Sprint and I can come to an agreement? I don't care if I never get another upgrade credit I just don't want to keep a phone with a direct connect function that I will NEVER use again. Why should I change my plan and have a button that does nothing of use for me?

i know there is a way to change your plan online without having to extend your contract. if you log into the website and play/look around on My sprint, u may find it. I know for sure i see it every time i log in. Hope this helps

First off, thank you for your answer
But I actually want to sign up for another 2 years of service. I have great coverage for my phone calls on Sprint but when I got the ic502 last year I asked the store that helped me pick the phone if I would be able to switch off to Sprint only with no nextel direct connect if I signed a new contract. The woman there told me "yes" and also said that there would be no termination fees for my old service and that I would be eligable for current rates on a new sprint phone when I was ready to make the switch. Now that I am ready, I'm being told "no that's not possible" and it really makes me frustrated because I wouldn't have purchased this phone and plan last year had I thought that I wouldn't be able to make this change in the first place. I would have just went ahead and purchased a Sprint phone with no "nextel" direct connect and told my family to suck it up and call me instead of "chirp" me.
I'm just really upset, even if the girl was wrong and didn't know what she was talking about at the time, how would I know that when I was in the store? I was ready to get a new phone because mine was very old and what she was saying to me was very appealing. She looked like she knew what she was talking about she even told me that when I switched to a "hybrid" phone I'd have better calls/less calls dropped and I did!
But now the story has changed and I felt like a moron when I walked into the store a few weeks ago and asked for this and they made it seem like I was stupid for not knowing they "they don't do that anymore" and then they proceeded to show me a Samsung Instinct and wanted me to consider buying it with my $75 upgrade credit! Are they insane or what?

Okay, this is late in coming, but I will try to help you understand. When you sign a contract, you get a deal on the phone, if you haven't finished the contract, you haven't finished paying for the deal. The 75.00 upgrade credit is half the credit, because you have finished half of the contract. Switching to a Sprint phone should not a big issue, but you won't get the full credit until your contract is nearly up. It does not matter that the plan costs more, what matters is that you signed a two year contract to get 150.00 off of a phone, and after a year are expecting another 150.00 off of the phone. That is not how it works. It's never worked that way, either you misunderstood what the saleslady stated, or she didn't explain quite right. I can also assure you, that no other company gives full credits for half contracts either.
Man i saw this but didn't have time to reply til now. mcgirk hit the nail on the head

Well thank you McGirk I did understand that when I signed up for the contract. The more annoying thing was that the saleslady was telling me something that was completely off base at the time. AND, at the time, I stupidly ate up everything she was saying. I am sure she just wanted to sell me that phone that I paid $129 for last year rather than the other phone I was looking at for much cheaper. Well, she did her job, sold me on a phone and sold me a line of BS as well. It's my fault for actually going into the store in the first place rather than going on the phone with nextel and asking questions from a REAL sales rep. but my old phone was completely shot with no hopes of repair and I needed a new one asap.
So really, now that I've had time to cool down, I'm just pissed that I rushed into something over a year ago without double checking the facts. So here I am now, screwed over by my own blind faith in a woman at some stupid store. oh well
Yeah the sales reps at most stores of any carriers tend to be snakes. they just look at you like another commision check

You could always activate another line of service and add it to a shared plan. I'm not sure what the cost of adding a line is, but at least you would get the full credit since it would be for a new line of service. You may not be able to swap numbers in the store (old phone number to the new phone) but it can be done.
All Sprint reps care about is getting an activation so they can get their commission. Most of the time they are willing and since most of the reps are "dirty" they tend to just think about the activation.
Not a bad idea but that would extend her contract up to two years and should she ever cancel she'd have to pay double the etf

Exactly, what Iowa said I would be stuck with double the fees IF I had need/want to leave Sprint. Plus I don't want to add another line for $9.99 (I think) and pay more taxes when I'm looking to upgrade my plan anyway. The whole thing was a mess last year. I had "Nextel" for 7 years and was on a very old plan, the kind that didn't really exist anymore. LoL and I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the switch to 100% Sprint voice service at the time. The store rep made it really seem that if I went to Powersource it would be like the best of both worlds I would still have Nextel's walkie talkie but I would have sprint voice calling as well. She said I would have fewer dropped calls, etc. etc. and if I wanted to make the switch to a Sprint phone I would be able to do so at any time and get the current sale price as long as I signed a new two year agreement.
So really, she was acting like powersource and sprint were two seperate things under the same company's name. It sounded soooo good when she was telling me these things! So I signed up! And she was right I very rarely get my calls dropped like I used to on my old phone and plan. And I really like that part. But I have been having a lot of issues with the walkie talkie part of my ic502 in the past 7 or so months. I dunno what happened, I didn't move or anything, it just isn't available like it was when I started. So basically, it's become pretty useless as of late. And a friend told me I should just switch my phone and get rid of this one when I was cursing loudly at my phone over at her house. So that started me on my excursion to the Sprint store and all of my confusion and anger. I'm not mad at Sprint anymore, just really pissed with that rep at the store. I wish she was more educated on the matter when I was in there last year.
