First before I start My Phone Carrier is AT&T/Cingular and I am in the USA in California.

I'm currently doing the GPRS internet with my razr via USB, i think its one of the earlier models because i only had 4MB of free memroy when i bought the phone, anyway I use the number *99# to get the dialup connection, anyway I installed the current version of Motorola Phone tools. and there is a new connection option called "ATT Wireless High Speed" using the number *99***3#, I connect to that one but I still get the same slow dialup 48kbps connection.

What I am wondering is if I use a phone with 3G capapbility(or whatever it uses to surf the interweb at a higher speed) like the Current Razr model or the Razr2 V9 or something like that, would I be able to use a faster connection? Or will I still only get the same dialup connection no matter what phone I use? Or will I have to use a specific User name and password if I do use a better phone.

Most people find this useless but I travel quite a bit and my laptop doesnt have wifi support and most places I goto has wifi that You would have to pay for, so I use my phone for the most part for that. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that yes, with a 3G-capable phone, you'll be able to access the higher-speed 3G service WHEN and WHERE it's available.

The only advantage I see to this is when you don't have WiFi service available. Otherwise, I'd lean toward getting a WiFi card for your laptop.

And be aware that what you are doing is called "tethering". AT&T will want to charge you for a data tethering plan and can penalize you for what you are doing without that plan.

Tethering? Would that be like Helio's plan where my buddy has an unlimited internet package but he is limited to only 130MB per month, but if he goes past that, it uses his limit for the next month and so on or something similar to that? I have the Unlimited data package from AT&T. Anyway thanks for replying mate.

No, "tethering" is the practice of accessing the internet using your computer connected to your mobile phone and using the mobile phone as the "modem". You are "tethering" the computer to the mobile phone.
