"DKU-2. This cable is only used for uploading music (with some other phones it should work with PC Suite - look at the compatibility list on nokia.com for further informations). "
It seems that alot of attention has been drawn to the Nokia 3200 data cable.
People have been suggesting that the following reasons may be responsible:
-Incorrect Nokia Suite version
-Incorrect data cable e.g. DKU-2, DKU-5
-Unsuitable PC specification
-Incorrect installation method
-Anything else to do with incompatibility
They are all logical explainations, though the answer is that Nokia made a complete f**k up this time.
I've currently got a 3200, and have experienced the exact same problems, with the same bulls**t solutions provided by Nokia.
I cannot locate a compatible driver or .INF for this, therefore its useless. Nokia has not even bothered to come up with a pants reason for its behaviour. The only way for them to answer is to complain, which I have tried without success.

i'm in australia and have a nokia 3100 and a dku-5 data cable and nokia pc suite installed. So far all i can do is view my contacts list or smses on the pc and add contacts etc....but i cant upload pics or ringtones. keeps saying it failed. what could be the problem? Also sometimes when i connect the cable to my phone it says 'data enhancement connected' then a few seconds later it says 'enhancement not supported'
also it seems with the software for adding images and ringtones it asks me to choose a 3100b. theres no 3100 to pick. is the 3100b an american model? is there any other software i can use to do the same job that will work with my phone?

Well I've attempted all of your ideas and I have gotten it to relatively work with my Nokia 3595... However there are some issues.
I cant seem to get any backgrounds or screen savers on my phone, and I'm using Oxygen 2. I've managed to get some ringtones on it, however I cant fit any ringtones that are over 10 Kb's. I was wondering if you guys knew any tricks to get pictures and screensavers on your phones, or if anyone knows why I cant seem to do it.
Thanks for your time!

I suggest printing this ,,, there are 4 Roman-numeralled sections, and section III has multiple parts
Here, find a detail DKU-5 install procedure that worked ,,, I have installed on WIN2000 and WINxp ,,, in last 2 days
the procedure worked on WIN2000 and WINxp;
WIN98 and WINme users likely will encounter slightly different steps for their OS steps, but should be roughly the same
I. Software installation (do not connect cable)
-1.Install DKU-5 driver v1.24, as available from Nokia site
-2.Install PC Suite software version which matches your OS, as available from Nokia site
-3.Reboot (do not connect cable)
II. Alignment of COM Ports
-1. Click icon – the PC Suite icon in right-corner System Tray
-2. Select – Nokia Application Installer
A. On the opened Application Installer, under My Phone see the 4 icons (but only the right 2 icons are ‘live’), then
-1. Click icon – Select a Phone, to open the Phone Selector panel
-2. Click button – Connection, to open the Connection Manager
-3. Hi-lite / Tick – Serial Cable ,,, (If nothing else happens, Click – Configure button)
-4. Click arrow – to open the Connection Manager
-5. View - the available COM ports (at this point in the install, usually two ports) ,,, and make note
-6. Close - all open Nokia window panels
B. To confirm current ports in use by pc (Note, this part is a check process only, no changes made in the part)
-1. On your pc’s taskbar, click Start, then select Control Panel
-2. Click to open – System icon to open System Properties panel
-3. Select – Hardware tab
-4. Click - Device Manager
-5. Click the ‘+’ sign – on the item labeled Ports (COM & LPT), to see the currently Windows-installed ports (frequently lists only COM1 and LPT1)
-6. Hi-lite – COM1
-7. Right-click, select Properties
-8. Select – Port Settings tab
-9. Click – Advanced Button
-10. Click arrow – to open listing of COM Port numbers ,,, listed at top will be all the ports in use ,,, and make a note of these
-11. If only COM1 and COM2 are in use, and there was no COM3 listed in Step 5 ,,, make note
-12. If COM1, COM2 and COM3 are in use, and there was no COM4 listed in Step 5 ,,, make note
-13. Close – the Advanced Settings panel, the Communications Port Properties box, and Device Manager box
C. If only COM1 and COM2 are in use, a COM3 must be added. If COM1, COM2 and COM3 are in use and there is no COM4, a COM4 must be added
-1. Click - Add Hardware Wizard on System Properties panel
-2. Select – ‘Yes, I have already connected the hardware’ ,,,, then click NEXT, to open box labeled “The following hardware is already installed on your computer”
-3. Scroll to bottom of box in #2
-4. Hi-lite – “Add a new hardware device” (under USB) ,,, then click NEXT, to open box labeled “The wizard can help you install other hardware”
-5. Select – “Install the Hardware manually select from a list (Advanced)” ,,, then click NEXT, to open box labeled “From the list below, select the type of hardware you are installing”
-6. Hi-lite – Show All Devices ,,,, then click NEXT ,,,, next box pops-up, and wait a bit for the box to fill up with devices ,,, box will be labeled “Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware”
-7. Hi-lite – “(Standard port types)” ,,, on left side
-8. Hi-lite – Communications Port ,,, on right side
-9. Click - NEXT, to open box labeled “The wizard is ready to install your hardware” (communications port)
-10. Click – NEXT, to open box labeled “Completing the Add Hardware Wizard”
-11. Confirm – new COMx added – by following steps 1-5 in part B above. If only 2 ports
-12. RE-BOOT with DKU-5 cable connected at USB (Do Not Connect Camera to cable) ,,, at re-start Windows will automatically install the Prolific USB-to-Serial Port as either COM3 or COM5
-13. Confirm upon re-start – the Prolific port was installed as COM 3 or COM5 ,,, by re-opening Device Manager, and re-opening group for Ports (COM & LPT)
-14. Close – Device Manager
D. Align PC Suite to COM port
-1. Click icon – the PC Suite icon in right-corner System Tray
-2. Select – Nokia Application Installer
-3. On the opened Application Installer, under My Phone see the 4 icons (but now 3 icons are ‘live’), then
-4. Click icon – Select a Phone, to open the Phone Selector panel
-5. Click button – Connection, to open the Connection Manager
-6. Hi-lite / Tick – Serial Cable ,,, (If nothing else happens, Click – Configure button)
-7. Click arrow – to open the Connection Manager

-1. Click icon – the PC Suite icon in right-corner System Tray
-2. Select – Nokia Application Installer
-3. On the opened Application Installer, under My Phone the Nokia phone model should be listed
-4. Congratulations !!!
-5. Close – the Application Installer
IV. For those who only now have gotten the DKU-5 cable, phone-cam and PC to communicate,
-1. Click icon – the PC Suite icon in right-corner System Tray
-2. Select each of the Nokia applications – to explore each
-3. Nokia Phone Browser – can be slow, or very slow (yes, the phone-cam appears not to have speedy flash memory)
-4. The Nokia Phone Browser may also be found via Windows Explorer, as folder labeled Nokia Phone Browser, or by left-clicking My Computer, to open the System Properties box where Nokia Phone Browser is listed as a System Folder
How did I figure everything out real fast ?
I followed the basics of PC Suite’s HELP instructions, in a section titled, “Taking cable connection into use” ,,, for DKU-5 ,,, and figured out the COM port alignment steps on my own
The software connection procedures found in the HELP instructions are different than anywhere else; different sets of instructions are provided under HELP with each different Nokia software found after clicking the right-corner icon in the System Tray. The HELP instructions can NOT be quickly accessed when starting PC Suite using the Start Menu method, as the PC Suite application is yet separate from the others appearing via the System Tray ion. Phon-cam users will likely want to print various sets of HELP instructons, as in general, the instructions are better than any found via web downloads.
I likely won't have need to post back here, so good luck everyone

Use Nokia Register Cleaner (for Windows) if you get the error message "Another version of Nokia PC Suite has been detected. Please remove it before continuing" when installing PC Suite.
the 1.24-meg cleaner application file, Nokia_Register_Clean_2, may be downloaded from here
- Multiport Data Devices (or serial adapter),
- with a sub-listing of Nokia Data Cable DKU-5, and
- Ports(COM & LPT1) lists Port 1 to Nokia Adapter (and perhaps no COM# as I have encountered on a WIN98SE install)
Hi to all!
After reading all of the posts, including e9racers installation procedure- i just can't get one thing straight.
Is the driver buggy(is the downloadable version newer than the one I installed from the dku-5 CD), or is there a problem between nokia pc suite and the driver so that the phone now keeps saying that the enhacement is not supported.
I didn't explain my problem - here it goes:
I pruchased the dku cable along with the phone - nokia 3100, installed the cable exactly as it says in the dku 5 manual(regardless of it's buggy installation procedure) and have seen that the most important tthing is NOT to connect the cable so w2k can recognize the CABE using the preinstalled driver.
I then attached the cable to the phone and that was ok. For the next few days i uploaded some java applications, pctures and ringtones, and just sometimes(randomly) i got the "error" message from the phone, but by reconnecting the cable to the phone - the problem was always solved.
Now i keep getting the message on the phone no matter what i do(restarting windows in hope it'll talk to the port and check if the cable is connected, trying all kinds of ways to connect the phone and to nokia pc suite see the phone , but no luck.
I didn't change any of the COM port properties, the USB cable is normally recognized in device manager, and the port (profilic usb) is there, and has no conflicts with the other ports.
