1. Install the DKU-5 drivers, without plug the cable
2. Install the Nokia pC suite software, again without plug the cable.
3. Now, the most important, you must install the drivers for TUSB3410. This driver creates a virtual COM port based on a USB connection.
You can find the driver at:
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folde...t/tusb3410.html
there's a lot of information on that page, but you can find the ling at the bottom, with the label:
"TI Virtual COM Port Windows Drivers and Firmware"
4. Once the TUSB3410 driver is installed, now you can plug the USB cable on you usb port, without be connected to the phone.
You 'll see a message informing that windows found a TYSB3410 device and couldn't find the driver. Select the option to locate the driver yourself, selecting the folder where the driver was installed (commonly, c:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\USB-Serial Adapter).
This message will appear twice, once for the new device and the other for the new port.
5. Finaly, you can plag the phone to the cable.
6. Open the Nokia connection manager, select Serial Cabe DKU-5, click on setup, and select the new "USB - Serial Port (COMx)"
Notice that you should do this step every time you unplug the cable. This is because the port is removed when the cable is unplugged.
Thanx a lot for providing such a useful information as it has solved my problem.

Hi,I have a Prolific cable DKU-5 and i wanted to connect it to my Home PC & with my Nkia 6610.i have Windows XP professional installed on it.i faced the Problems with the Original Nokia cable drivers that i downloaded from Nokia.com,then i checekd the Forums on this website & found that mine is a Prolific cable.so downloaded the wd_pl-2303hx_v20014v20026.zip
drivers & installed it on my PC,then I installed the PC suite & then Connected the DKU-5 Cable but it Still says New Hardware Found.it doesnt recognise the Drivers Installed fro the cable.
When I checked in the Device Manager, its Showing Under 'Other Devices'->DKU-5 with a Yellow ? on it.So the Windows Doesnt Recognise the Drivers Installed for the cable.
Can any one help me? also i wanna i know if i'll be able to acces the Internet through my cell phone using this Cable or not?
I have been having problems connecting my Nokia 3220 via DKU-5 cable to USB port on my Windows XP / Windows 2000 dual-boot pc.
This has been a interrmittant problem where the connection will either work or seems not to be found at all. I go to the control panel and look at the device manager and sure enough when it is not working the NOK serial connection is not detected and not displayed in my device manager.
This however would work once in a while and thought that it was a problem with a software and driver issue. So, after uninstalling and reinstalling the software after hand full of times. I figured out that it is not an interrmittant software / driver glitch.
However, after some thought about the cable and the low voltage communications going through this cable. I thought that the problems could be caused by outside (around the room and pc location) "noise". So, I then decided to wrap the cable with tin-foil and place the phone and cable in a location as far as possible from eletronic noise making devices. This is including; AC outlets, pc equipment, and any of its cables.
Sure enough after rebooting the computer and then connecting the cable, I now have working communications.
I am still in the process of testing this threory, however this seems to have worked over the several days of usage. You may want to test this theory yourself and let me know what kind of results you have.
Thanks,
pb

This is addition information on my post of two days ago.
I too am unable to locate any .inf file. However, when you click on file
Nokia_DKU_5.exe (from CD) or DKU5.exe (downloaded from Nokia website), it unzips 17 files, one of which is called Setup.exe. When you open set up, you get the install shield wizzard for the Nokia Connectivity Adaptor Cable, and there are three alternatives: Modify, Repair, or Remove. If you select "modify" you are informed that it is unavailable. If you selected "repair", it goes ahead and "repairs" the files. If you say "delete" , it reportedly deletes the files. If after they have been deleted, you go back again and ask it to modify, it takes a much longer time, indicative that it is copying many more files.
At the end it says that Nokia Adaptor Cable has been installed, but the machine still does not recognize it even if you re-boot the machine.
When you connect the cable to Nokia 3589i, it says ready for data. If you try installing Nokia PC Suite 5.05, it will search but not find the USB where the cable is connected. Its search is consistent with Window's search. You can specify Com 1,2,3, or 4, but I don't know how the USB ties into any one of those.
I do know that my machine does quickly find other things that have been connected to the USB port including scanner and optical mouse. If not sure if my USB is a USB 1 or USB 2. I suspect USB2 because computer has an Intel board designed for use with Pentium IV CPU's. I would not think that telephone needed the speed of the USB-2 standard.
BOTTOM LINE... I have yet to figure out how to communicate with Nokia 3589i. Nokia help desk has acknowledged receipt of my inquiry, but I've yet to receive a reply. Do hope others with same problem have found solution.
I have read nearly every post here and tried them on but nothing seems 2 work with my nokia cable
I have nokia 3220.and DKU-5 cable
I installed the drivers of the phone, restarted my PC.Installed Nokia Pc suite ,restarted the PC.
Then i Connected my cable(without phone).it says New Hardware found .

thats all i cant go further.
I tried Installing the TEXAS INSTUMENTS vitual comm port driver
After installing the VCP installer according to the instructions given in the pdf file,i connected the cable but same USB TO SERIAL problem came up.

After an initial failure, and a 2-month hiatus before trying it again today with the help of some of the suggestions in this forum (thanks btw to those who contributed to this post, hopefully others will find this one helpful as well), and elsewhere from google, I've finally gotten it to work -- for the most part. I have not tried restarting the computer since I got it working, and the phone tends to disconnect/reconnect occassionally without reason.
My first attempt consisted of several attempts of installing the drivers, both from the CD and downloaded from Nokia, with and without the Nokia PC Software suite. That attempt utterly failed. Below is everything that I've learned since, and how I've gotten it to work, up to the point of backing up the contacts list from the phone.
The Cable
Based on what I've seen online, it appears that there are at least 3, perhaps as many as 6 different versions of the DKU-5 cable, only one of them being authentic.
The cable that I have comes in cardboard box marked as DKU-5 (bought off ebay for ~$10). It is not the official Nokia version, and based on the descriptions in this thread, is not a Prolific cable either. The cable is marked as "DKU-5 R/N: WT048000317 M/N: KQ-USA MADE IN CHINA"
How I got it to work (for today at least)
Start out with a clean system - meaning no previous installations of the Nokia drivers or software - to be safe.
1. Insert the Driver CD into the CD-ROM (came in the box with the cable). Close any annoying autoplay programs that pop up (press ESC), but don't install anything yet.
2. Insert the USB DATA Cable, but do NOT attach the phone to it yet.
3. Windows will pop up with an Add New Hardware Wizard. Let it automatically search for the driver, which it will find on the CD, and install it. For Windows XP, ignore any messages about non-certified drivers.
4. Repeat Step 3 for any/all add new hardware wizards that might pop up. During my attempt, it popped up 4 times altogether, twice at this point, and twice again later on. I don't know why it pops up multiple times, but if it works don't complain.
5. Install the Nokia PC Suite Software (download the appropriate version for your OS/phone from nokia.com).
6. Plug your phone into the cable after the installation is completed. The computer should detect a new device, and the add new hardware wizard will pop up again. Repeat steps 3/4 to proceed.
7. If everything installed successfully, the phone should display a message to the effect that "enhanced connectivity is active," and the Nokia software should detect your phone. A wizard will pop up that can be used to quickly synchronize your phone with the address book on your computer (from outlook express, or similar programs).
8. Use, experiment, and enjoy the connectivity software. Depending on your phone model, you can upload games, applications, ringtones, and more. The software contains some useful (but not very powerful) applications to help you convert your files into a format compatible with the phone.
Note: Always plug the USB cable in first, without the phone attached. After it is detected and windows says the cable is ready for use, you may plug the phone in. DO NOT use or touch the phone in any way while the cable is connected or strange things will happen (compared to probably if you don't touch it).
Second Note: The next time you use the cable, it should automatically detect the device. Driver installation should not be necessary after initial setup, and you shouldn't need the driver CD again (until the next time you refresh your OS at least).
Also note that these directions are not definite, although they worked for me at least once. Nothing seems to be constant with this software and drivers, so what works one day may not work the next as it seems. Using these directions I've managed to backup my phones contacts to Outlook Express - I just hope I can transfer them back later when I get a replacement phone (the earpiece is over-heating, so they will send me a replacement phone).
Weird Issues that remain
One minor issue I'm having with this approach is that while my phone is a Nokia 3120, it is being recognized as a 3100b. Presumably they are the same phone, just different model numbers for different service providers. To ensure there aren't any software conflicts, just choose the model number the computer recognizes the phone as (hold your mouse over the Nokia icon and it will tell you which phone is connected) when prompted in any wizards and dialogs.
The phone seems to randomly connect/reconnect while the cable is connected. If it does, I found that completely disconnecting the phone, and reconnecting it seems to fix it most of the time.

Hi
I have exactly the same phone (3220) and cable (dku-5). I have also tried everything mentioned in this forum (including the modification of the VIP/PID in .inf files of TUSB3410 driver programs from Texas Instruments) and none of them helped. There is no markings on my dku-5 cable and I'm pretty sure that it is not a Prolific cable. After a lengthy search, I found the company that made the cable. It is EDISONSOFT from a small city in southern China. But if you try to find it on line, it does not exist, because it has changed its name to Prodigy. The website with the driver is:
Once after the driver is installed, everything worked! Hope the same will be with you!

Hello
I also have got one DKU-5 cable.
It's a clone Version. Thanks to jonin6 for his/her method to detect this. I bought this one in a retail store in Sau Paolo.
emsgrl's Method worked for me too.
DKU-5 Driver: Nokia_DKU-5_1_24.exe from Nokia page (www.nokia.ch).
Pc Suite: Nokia_PC_Suite_66_rel_16_ger.exe dito
TI Virtual COM PORT: TUSBWINVCP_2KXP_V103.zip from TI page
Installed these 3 components. Give position of driver manually in hardware assistant for multi-com-port and usb/com.You now see 2 items in the device manager, 1 in the section connections and 1 in a special "section" called "multiport-adapter" (The TI DRiver).
First time I had to enable the com/usb port in the Nokia connection manager. Go to manage connections, choose serial cable, choose configure, choose the virtual-com-port from the list. This can be a little bit ticky.
I earlier had managed to run the same cable on a different winxp machine
(but not on another xp and not on one windows me machines),
with only driver and pc-suite from the cd, which I lost now. Are there differencies to the nokia package(?)
It seems that there are at least 3 different clones of this cable out:
There seems to be a third version as Seamonster posted.
