If you want I can e-mail you the driver I got with my DKU 5 cable. I got it working fine on my Nokia 3100, I'm using Windows XP. Did you go into the Systems and check what COM port the DKU cable was using? If it's using port 3 or 4 this is ok Nokia suite should find you're phone. If not, uninstall the COM port in systems then remove the DKU then reboot.

Ok, heres how you solve it (winXP pro atleast, should be similiar with other OS's):
-Install the driver as normal.
-Install interface software (Nokia Pc Suite)
At this point it will say that there are some connection problems, and you wont be able to establish a connection.
-Go to Device Manager, (right cklick "My Computer" -> "Manage"... under "system tools"-> "Device Manager"...
Now there should be a yellow icon on the "Nokia Connectivity Adapter Cable DKU-5" indicating there is a problem with it... the problem is that it hasnīt got a port defined due to lack of driver information.
-Right click the icon and choose "Update Driver" then as the dialog appears: allow it to search your WindowsXp cd... This might take a while, but at last it will prompt you with a dialog "Unsigned driver warning - blahblah blah..."
-Press "Continue anyway" it will then prompt for a missing driver "usbvsp.sys" if I remember correctly..
-click "browse" and go into: "X:\Windows\System32\drivers\usbvsp.sys"... that is, select the .sys file and click OK..
-Now as you completed that driver update the yellow indicator should be gone, but under the "Ports (COM & LPT)" in Device manager there is a new indicator... known as"unknown device"..
-Again right click and choose "Update Driver".. let it search for the missing driver and select OK..
-Now.. Start PC Suit and connect .. and make sure your cable is plugged It should work, canīt make any guarantees though...

First off I want to thank everyone for all their input on this forum and a couple others I saw. This seems to be a big problem and you all have already helped me on the driver. Reading these posts I found out that I too have a prolific cable and found the driver for it. Now the cable is recognized. Although it doesn't show up in device manager as "prolific usb->serial" it shows up as "Kingsun usb->com"(com 5) and says usb->serial in the properties. Any way it appears to work.
Now..... for the other problem.
To all of you who have got it all to work.
I haven't seen much talk about carriers or service providers. I have a Nokia 3589i through Verizon. I know that the cable works now because when I connect the phone it lights up and says "Ready For Data" with the animated green checkmark in the little check box. Then 2 seconds later it says "Data Connection Ended" then 2 seconds later, "Enhancement Not Supported" with the red error icon. It cycles like that about 3 times and whenever I try to use one of the programs in the PC suite which BTW is Nokia PC Suite 6.41.6. I read somewhere on another forum that this is because even though Nokia built the phone to do these things, when Verizon(or other carriers) buys the phone to sell on their own, they put a block on all that for a few reasons. They dont want you to dnld ringtones and wallpaper from your PC cuz they want you to use GetItNow. Also they block it so you cant use your phone as a modem cuz they want you to buy a big expensive data plan and they know that the phone is already capable of data transfer. They just don't tell you that. Instead they block it all so you cant use any of it.
To all of you actualy able to get your phone and PC to talk, how did you get around the block put in your phone by the carrier? Maybe its only Verizon, idunno. How many of you have it working with a Verizon phone and again how did you get around the block? I know this is true because I called Verizon and asked them. At first they were elusive about their answers. Then when I mentioned that I had heard that they put the block in, they got very defensive and it even turned into a violent arguement until I got one of their supervisors on. Her and I got into an arguement, too. I finally got her to admit it. They basically said, "Ya we did block it and NO we absolutely will not remove it!, kiss my a$$ and get off my phone!!!" or something to that effect. I believe there are lawsuits against Verizon somewhere regarding some of this, too.
Anyway, How did those of you with Verizon get yours to work?
Does anyone know an unlock code or a hack/tweak to remove Verizons strong arm? By unlock code I dont mean to unlock the phone, either. I mean to hack out that stupid block. Just to keep it clear. I'm all about anything hack or tweak.
Thank you all very much!!

Believe me, thereīs no conspiracy behind your connection problems... You didnīt specify the problem in detail, but from what I understood you werenīt able to transfer any data to/from the phone.. The phone will always detect any enhancement you connect.. The repeated connection failed & reconnect you experience is simply the fact that the phone does not establish a connection to your hardware/sowtware and will stop trying to reconnect after a default count of 3 times (usually)... like any other network connection attempts.
If the problem only lies in the "modem" option: to connect to the net via your cellphone then the problem lies within the phoneīs GPRS or other operation settings (bad "Access point" etc.) or some other error Iīm totally unaware of, Iīm not that familiar with the issue.. However Iīd check with the local computer geek just to be sure, before making another "irritating" call to Verizon.
btw: latest version of Nokia PC Suite is 6.6.16

After an initial failure, and a 2-month hiatus before trying it again today with the help of some of the suggestions in this forum (thanks btw to those who contributed to this post, hopefully others will find this one helpful as well), and elsewhere from google, I've finally gotten it to work -- for the most part. I have not tried restarting the computer since I got it working, and the phone tends to disconnect/reconnect occassionally without reason.
My first attempt consisted of several attempts of installing the drivers, both from the CD and downloaded from Nokia, with and without the Nokia PC Software suite. That attempt utterly failed. Below is everything that I've learned since, and how I've gotten it to work, up to the point of backing up the contacts list from the phone.
The Cable
Based on what I've seen online, it appears that there are at least 3, perhaps as many as 6 different versions of the DKU-5 cable, only one of them being authentic.
The cable that I have comes in cardboard box marked as DKU-5 (bought off ebay for ~$10). It is not the official Nokia version, and based on the descriptions in this thread, is not a Prolific cable either. The cable is marked as "DKU-5 R/N: WT048000317 M/N: KQ-USA MADE IN CHINA"
How I got it to work (for today at least)
Start out with a clean system - meaning no previous installations of the Nokia drivers or software - to be safe.
1. Insert the Driver CD into the CD-ROM (came in the box with the cable). Close any annoying autoplay programs that pop up (press ESC), but don't install anything yet.
2. Insert the USB DATA Cable, but do NOT attach the phone to it yet.
3. Windows will pop up with an Add New Hardware Wizard. Let it automatically search for the driver, which it will find on the CD, and install it. For Windows XP, ignore any messages about non-certified drivers.
4. Repeat Step 3 for any/all add new hardware wizards that might pop up. During my attempt, it popped up 4 times altogether, twice at this point, and twice again later on. I don't know why it pops up multiple times, but if it works don't complain.
5. Install the Nokia PC Suite Software (download the appropriate version for your OS/phone from nokia.com).
6. Plug your phone into the cable after the installation is completed. The computer should detect a new device, and the add new hardware wizard will pop up again. Repeat steps 3/4 to proceed.
7. If everything installed successfully, the phone should display a message to the effect that "enhanced connectivity is active," and the Nokia software should detect your phone. A wizard will pop up that can be used to quickly synchronize your phone with the address book on your computer (from outlook express, or similar programs).
8. Use, experiment, and enjoy the connectivity software. Depending on your phone model, you can upload games, applications, ringtones, and more. The software contains some useful (but not very powerful) applications to help you convert your files into a format compatible with the phone.
Note: Always plug the USB cable in first, without the phone attached. After it is detected and windows says the cable is ready for use, you may plug the phone in. DO NOT use or touch the phone in any way while the cable is connected or strange things will happen (compared to probably if you don't touch it).
Second Note: The next time you use the cable, it should automatically detect the device. Driver installation should not be necessary after initial setup, and you shouldn't need the driver CD again (until the next time you refresh your OS at least).
Also note that these directions are not definite, although they worked for me at least once. Nothing seems to be constant with this software and drivers, so what works one day may not work the next as it seems. Using these directions I've managed to backup my phones contacts to Outlook Express - I just hope I can transfer them back later when I get a replacement phone (the earpiece is over-heating, so they will send me a replacement phone).
Weird Issues that remain
One minor issue I'm having with this approach is that while my phone is a Nokia 3120, it is being recognized as a 3100b. Presumably they are the same phone, just different model numbers for different service providers. To ensure there aren't any software conflicts, just choose the model number the computer recognizes the phone as (hold your mouse over the Nokia icon and it will tell you which phone is connected) when prompted in any wizards and dialogs.
The phone seems to randomly connect/reconnect while the cable is connected. If it does, I found that completely disconnecting the phone, and reconnecting it seems to fix it most of the time.
Thanks a ton, Angryguy!!
Finally I have a working cable. The manufacturer is Brando Workshop (never heard of that one before).

Hello everybody, i'm new around her.
I have a problem with my DKU 5 cable. For a while i am in Israel and i bought from here a data cable from an Orange shop. I think the cable is original (It's USB type). It's not that the windows doesn't recognise the cable, the instalation went smooth (the windows just said that the soft for the usb it's not certified) after that I installed the PC-suite. The problem is when i CONNECT my phone. The phone doesn't react in any way and the soft doesn't see it as connected. I don't know what to do. Could somebody please help me?
Hope i'm not that off-topic.
With all respect.

You should check if the cable drivers are installed properly in device manager (rightclick My computer> hardware >device manager) and what COM port is asigned to it. Then change the setting in Nokia connection manager to point to the correct port.
