I have recently purchased a Samsung Sway and have been having a hard time getting ringtones onto it. I bought a micro SD card and have been successful in uploading pictures and music to my phone through that, but oddly enough when I put edited down MP3, M4A or MMF files (along with must about every other type of file I have read from these forums) into the appropriate ringtones folder on my card it doesn't show up on my phone. I formated the card to the phone and I get the following folders.
my_pics
my_flix
my_music
my_ringtones
my_sounds
I looked at what type of files the phone has currently for its ringtones and they are all MP3s. I thought that it might be locked from this type of activity by Verizon, but the fact that I can still get music on my phone via the music folder with just a regular MP3 is confusing me. Any help would be amazing. This is really frustrating. This is a brand new phone and all I can find online are reviews and specs.
Thanks

I have the exact same problem. If anyone finds something about, it would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem. I thought the ringtones would accept mp3's because the ones already on the phone were mp3's. However I found that they have to be converted to .qcp files, then loadthem into the ringtone area of your sd card and they should be recognized. My only other issue was that the phone, even though it has the option of setting a ringtone on the card as the one to be used, won't use it unless you transfer it to the phone memory. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I transfer it tothe phone and set it to be used, it works.

Thanks so much. I am having trouble finding a mac version though. But yeah this sounds very promising. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Let me know if this works for you. Mine works fine but the quality of the .qcp files is not the greatest. Better than nothing though. My daughter has an LG Dare that I can just text to with an .mp3 attachment and then save it as a ringtone. that works well and the mp3's ar emuch better. Not an option with our phone to my understanding.

I have had limited success in sending mp3's to my sway and not having them transformed into terrible sounding qcp files. By process of elimination, I have determined that the file needs to be short -- significantly under 30 seconds -- I have transferred 21 sec, 17 sec and 13 sec tones. It also needs to be small -- the ringtones I have transferred are 247 kb, 209 kb, and 160 kb. The only software I have been able to successful with is Audacity + lame 3.97 (Itunes & Nero mp3s both always converted to qcp on transfer). It doesn't seem like sampling rate and bitrate really matter. I have sent 44.1 Khz x 128 kbps and 22.05 khz x 96kbps and they both play. I have done everything in stereo, even though there's only one speaker -- I am going to play with mono files next.
Good luck, and I hope this helps!

P.S. I also have not been able to move mp3 ringtones via the micro SD card. that would be soo much easier (and cheaper for Verizon -- less network traffic), so of course it's locked down!
