I have a new VU204 and the Phone tools software but they did not sync up.
After doing what you suggested, it worked perfectly.
Thanks.

...Ok, now you should have the option to setup your device manually. Don't do the auto detect options from this point forward, waste of time. On select device menu, choose Moto USB Modem and next, next, next again, select Motorola CDMA and v710m as the model, then next and finish. Your phone tools should now try and initialize the vu204. Be patient here. Now you should be able to use the Phone Tools software. I have yet to find something that doesn't work in the suite but if there is please post it.
After the error that the phone isn't supported, I get prompted to look for updates. I do this, and updates are not found. I click Finish, and the Motorola Tools closes. I'm never given the option to setup the device manually. What version of the toolbox are you using?[/quote]

In my case, the carrier (Verizon) has disabled many of the features of the phone. They have admitted this to me, saying that it is to prevent the transfer of copyrighted material. Yeah, right. What's going to stop me from sending copyrighted material over their network?
BTW, this is not the first Verizon phone I have had which has had features disabled; it is standard operating procedure for Verizon.
I have been hounding Verizon over this, and will continue to do so. I think that it is wrong of them to disable USB features on a phone that I PAID FOR and OWN. If your carrier is Verizon, I urge you to complain also. Here's a good e-mail address for that:
wfmweirt at HQ.VerizonWireless dot com
(You know what to do with the "at" and "dot")
I will also be filing a complaint with the FCC, and with the California Public Utilities Commission.
A supervisor at Verizon told me that my complaint was the first he had heard about this issue. I don't buy that. Regardless, the more people who complain about it, the more likely that the features will be restored.

Verizon.Same ol. I hacked my e815 the 1st week I had it to get bluetooth sync working and has been fine. OK.so I got this VU204. I just wanted my contacts transferred. I ran into what everyone else here has. I paired the Bluetooth with my PC first and then selected the e815m for my phone and was able to sync via bluetooth. I tried the v710m like suggested and it would not read my contacts, so I tried the e815m model option which I am familiar with. Worked fine. Now the pics didn't work, but it is late and I just wanted my contacts working.
Hope this helps someone.

OK.Update. Using just the file transfer in MPT, I copied two pictures from my PC and then was able to find them on the phone just fine.

Hi all, new to this stuff, and cellphones basically. I have a Motorola Moto VU204 with Verizon as a carrier. Can a person use mp3 tones they have downloaded for use as ringtones on this phone, and if so, can someone walk me thru the process or point me in the direction of a tut on how to do this. I got this phone for my daughter and we cannot figure out how to do it. I have the cord that hooks from the pc to the phone to transfer things but do I need a program or what? Im not even sure if it will accept mp3 ringtones as on the manual it says you press a button on the phone to get them (I think verizon don't like us to use our own tones.

If I subscribe to one of the companies that sells ringtones will it work on this phone or can I only buy them from VERIZON?
