Recently bought this brand new vu204 phone and "motorola phone tools" in hopes to sync my phone with my PC. The computer doesn't recognize the phone at all. I've got the latest drivers from the moto site and still nothing. after much calling to the technical support it seems that there's no PC driver for the VU204 yet. what a disappointment. has anyone found a workaround for this. The phone was release on oct 15th so i realize it's a little new. you think they'd have a way to sync it by now. any tips?

I'm having the same problem. I did a bit of searching and found a couple drivers that installed successfully and show up on the device manager, but I can't figure out how to access the phone? I thought it would be a drag-drop device where I could put my files into a folder and be on my way. Anyway, here's the link I used:
helpdesk dot houdinisoft dot com slash downloads slash index dot htm
tell me where that takes you.

I think it's not showing up in the DM as these aren't the drivers for the phone. XP will recognize it as a motorola modem without the correct driver but I think you'll need the right "VU204" driver to make it sync. the drivers on that page you posted were version 3.5. the one's on the moto site were 3.7. here's the response they sent me yesterday. seems like we'll just have to wait it out?
" Regarding your concern, we apologize for the inconvenient. Unfortunately we have not received yet any updated information about it. Right now we do not have a date on when this driver will be on the market. What we can recommend you is to try a "LIVE UPDATE" every week to eventually get the update necessary to make this phone compatible with the program."

I just got phone tools to work for the first time on my vu204. First you will need to have Moto Phone tools, a given. Next, go to Moto's site and download their usb driver 3.7. Your pc will recognize a Moto USB modem/communication interface is installed. Now then, the phone won't show up under my computer as some may assume. However you can use Phone tools for almost any task. I went through the phone setup wizard and phone tools didn't recognize my phone. Weird but ok. Next it asks to update its list of phones. Fine, it does this but still does not recognize the vu204. Ok, now you should have the option to setup your device manually. Don't do the auto detect options from this point forward, waste of time. On select device menu, choose Moto USB Modem and next, next, next again, select Motorola CDMA and v710m as the model, then next and finish. Your phone tools should now try and initialize the vu204. Be patient here. Now you should be able to use the Phone Tools software. I have yet to find something that doesn't work in the suite but if there is please post it.

thanks for your help. I downloaded that latest version of drivers last week and now Phone tools sees the phone and is communicating with it. Allright! the next snag is I'm not able to transfer music to or photos from the phone as those options are RED and unable to be selected in the "phone tools" program. could it be that this phone is unable to transfer music or photos as there's no SIM card? the phone has been a little trouble so far, would be a shame if we weren't able to transfer anything to or from it.

That's probably because the CARRIER has disabled those features in order to force you to buy their ringtones and other data. Was it Verizon that was doing this?
That stinks.
If you have pics, you can email them to yourself to retrieve them to your computer.
Hopefully, there are other solutions that will be presented by someone else.
Good luck, Geri O

I realize the phone doesn't have a video player or MP3 player, thus will not be able to use these functions in Phone Tools. Pictures can be pulled from the phone, but I'm having a problem transferring the pictures over to the phone. Not a resolution or file size issue at play. Have to figure this one out. My Lotus Notes here at work syncs just fine. Haven't tried other clients yet. We go Exchange in the summer of 09, so I'll see how that goes. Melodies will not transfer to phone. I should have tried all of this sooner, but atleast some of the functions are working.

no mp3 player for ringtones eh? that makes sense. i wonder what the file format is that they're using for the ringtones on there. there's a bunch of built in ones that aren't MIDI. I wonder if I could convert to that file type/encoding and transfer. I AM able to transfer photos over using an old version of phone tools and telling the program that I'm using a V715m instead of the VU204
