Okay I love AT&T with all my heart and would NEVER consider going to another carrier.but.
WHY CAN'T THEY JUST GIVE US 3G ALREADY?
Back in May, they said they would erect 3G towers in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport. I visited Cedar Rapids in October and they are still on EDGE. I go to school in Des Moines and we are still under EDGE (though the EDGE network here is VERY fast compared to some in Northern Missouri and St. Joseph ugh.)
A few months ago, I went into a Des Moines AT&T store and they said "The end of October", so I waited.went into an AT&T store again.they said "DEFINITELY by Thanksgiving".I went into an AT&T store last week.they said "DEFINITELY December 5", which made that statement more beliveable since they have a date thrown out there. I visit the Merle Hay Mall AT&T store in Des Moines earlier today and NOW they tell me "January 2009".
WTF IS GOING ON AT&T?
I remember them talking about 3G since February 2007 when I obtained my first 3G enabled phone, the LG CU 400! They kept pushing and pushing the date back.now it's just gone on too long and AT&T is becoming more unreliable and doesn't look good for their reputation. Though I still love AT&T, I am ranting cuz I just want it so bad .
20 bucks says they'll give it to country bumpkin Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska before DSM.because Omaha has a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE coverage area.right.there is NO coverage outside Omaha/Lincoln except on I-80 East towards Des Moines.and where is AT&T coverage OUTSIDE Lincoln to the west, north, and south? Nowhere.nowhere until Witchita, KS to the south.NOWHERE to the north (now I'm not mentioning Roaming.I'm talking about real AT&T towers), and to the west.500 friggin miles to Denver, CO! AT&T stores here in Des Moines says that Omaha/Lincoln will get it the same time as us, but I doubt it.
Des Moines deserves 3G for the great rural coverage (50 mile radius in every direction outside Des Moines), and for the number of AT&T stores they have in the area, and it's a great midwest city in which the Caucuses and many political events occurr downtown.and these business people EXPECT 3G to be here! So it is well worth the big investment, because then more customers will arise!
So if one of the head honchos at AT&T is reading this.PLEASE give 3G to Iowa, okay? THANK YOU!
Anyone else's input is welcome too! Thanks!

We're waiting for 3G where I live to in SW MO. They've already got it in areas south of us in NW Arkansas (Bentonville, Headquarters of WalMart), but it's been put on hold here too.
ATT, Fastest 3G If You live by the one tower that actually has it.

I don't know if this makes you feel better, but I am also waiting for 3G in IA. I live in Des Moines. I was just in Cedar Rapids on Thursday 11/20 and they do have 3G now. My iPhone was the fastest it had ever been. Maybe that means we will FINALLY be getting it here too (soon).[/quote]
The Funny part is once att finally gets decent 3g service it'll be 4g time.

I live in Omaha and my signal is not the greatest at my house. There is a natural topography ridge between my house and the tower. They say that 3G is comming by the end of December 2008. I hope this will improve my signal.
I may also have to change from my Razr V3xx to a Motorola Q9h (my choice for managing email account when out of town and to pair down from using my Razr and carrying a PDA). Don't want to update until 3G comes to town and certainly don't want to upgrade until necessary.
Any comments on how 3G affects voice?

Okay everybody.brace yourselves!
I went to work which is 80 miles from my dorm room (My hometown is 20 miles away from the town I work in and I stay there on Thurs Fri & Sat evenings).I worked an extra day yesterday and I made the journey back to Des Moines. My BlackJack II was dead.so I plugged it into the charger and the phone started up.was setting my alarm.and I noticed something.SOMETHING interesting.what's that I see? A little.THATS RIGHT a 3G SYMBOL IN THE CORNER OF THE SCREEN OF MY BLACKJACK II! I was truly ecstatic!
I popped my SIM card into my Shine and sure enough the 3G icon popped up when the phone started up and I was like yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! It is faster of course and the wait is over! Next week on one of my days off I will roam around Des Moines and see exactly where the limits of the 3G service area is. But I'm excited! YAY!
I know call me captain corny.I've been waiting for this for frickin' two years!
THE WAIT IS OVER!

Let me know what you find out as far as 3G coverage in West Des Moines. I'm on the 1st gen iPhone and was contemplating upgrading.
However, right now I am still waiting for the tech to determine why we don't get any service in our neighborhood at all! They say we are only a half mile from a tower, so we should be getting excellent service. Not the case, no bars or 1 bar if standing in the right spot.
