Hi, I'm going to start out by saying that I am new to this forum and I am not very tech savvy. The full story of my phone follows:
I got my first phone, a Motorola Razr V3xx, in August '07. I had dropped it a couple times, but it held up. About a year after purchasing it (approx. 5 months ago) I dropped it again, but it landed right on the hinge. The left hinge broke, but the phone still worked normally. After about a month, I believe the flex circuit had a slight tear in it. The screen only glowed black, and the lower half worked seemingly fine. I was on a bus at the time, and we hit a bump, which caused the flex circuit to tear and the phone to be in two pieces. A few weeks ago, my dad ordered a new front frame and a new flex circuit and put it back together. Unfortunately, the phone does not power on. I have charged it, and all that happens is the red light on the front display comes on. My computer does not recognize the phone either. On occasion, the keypad has blinked on and off while plugged in. I have tried turning it on in flash mode with the # * Power combination, but all I have gotten is the screen to glow for a few seconds. It remains glowing while plugged into the charger, but then turns off after about a minute. I currently have the faceplate and battery cover removed, no SIM card in it.
Any ideas? Or should I just get a new phone? I'd hate to lose all of my stuff that is on there currently. I hope Old Fool can help me, because I hear he is particularly helpful in these situations. Any advice from anyone is very greatly appreciated, though!
Sorry my post is so lengthy, I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave anything out that could potentially be helpful. I'll gladly answer any more questions that could potentially aid in the problem solving. Thank you!

All I can offer is that the red light turning off is simply a sign that the battery is charged. If you're technically inclined, there is information available on the net that can help possibly repair it.
If you're like me, with little time to poke around inside broken small things that are cheap enough to replace (like cell phones), then you'd be best served by getting a new phone. They are cheap enough all over Ebay. Of course, you might find worth the trouble to recover all of your "stuff". That's for you to decide.
And with this new phone, should you decide to go that route, use a back-up solution such as Motorola Phone Tools or SyncCell to, well, back up your numbers and data to your PC. Not many things in life suck as badly as losing years worth of contacts in a phone with no back-up (I've been there several years ago, NEVER again).

Thank you for your suggestions and words of wisdom. I'll definitely be willing to get a new phone if I can back up all of my contacts and pictures (I have hundreds). My problem for the most part is getting my computer to recognize the phone. Perhaps my phone short circuited sometime before it tore in half or when we took it apart. I would like to know if I should just give up, or try to fix it. I read somewhere about "flashing." I'm not entirely sure if this would help. Once again, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Flashing is a method of installing new software on to the phone, not repairing damage. If it were me, I'd just get a new phone. But again, you'll have to decide if this is a project you want to tackle. At this point, I don't know how you'd go about backing up your old phone because of its condition. Here on my location, we have some phone guys that have worked miracles on things like this. But they do charge by the hour for these miracles, LOL. It might be worth looking for such a phone guru in your area and if they are around, let them look at it to determine if it's possible. No one can tell you for sure without seeing it up close.
I've been in your position and it stinks. Good luck,
