Hi All,
My 2.5 yr old Moto V557 is crapping out. I would line to get a "good" up to date smart phone but not pay (at first) for all the data plans and stuff that ATT would tack on if I purchased through them. Buy via "No Commitment" purchase (full price)
Is this do-able or will the change to a smart phone like (eg: HTC fuze, Moto Q Global or BB-Bold) force my plan up to include the data (media-net) costs?
I currently have a 300 minute/month plan with media-net charged per Kb of data transfered, they don't offer this anymore.
So has anyone been able to leverage a new smart phone onto an existing plan without incurring new bundled plan fees?
Thanks
John M

To get a new smartphone under contract from AT&T, it might require a data plan, but I really can't remember. And since I've never bought a phone from AT&T at the "no-commitment pricing", I can't offer anything there. It's worth a look at the website or a visit to a retail store. If not, yer in business (but be careful about using data, it adds up soooo quickly!
Another thing you could do is look on the internet at the several dozen cellphone stores or even Ebay for a GSM-capable smartphone and simply move your SIM card to the smartphone. Don't even need to tell AT&T, just do it.

Usually the only reason a smart phone plan is required with a purchase through AT&T is for the sole purpose of the rebate. Alot of times, it's one of the conditions of getting the rebate back.

I was actually thinking along these lines with the possibility of buying an "unlocked" model (which-ever) and moving the sim card. IDK if it will work though. I'm hoping some former Cingular/ATT rep might come forward with some insight.
My current plan does include data use, just pay as you go, which AT&T does not offer anymore. I just dont want to jinx that. . BTW, I am not currently within the 24 month window anymore, just month to month, keeping options open.
Thanks

As I said earlier, it is completely possible to put your SIM card in any unlocked phone and use it. I've done it numerous times.

its not a problem. if its a PDA or BB the data plan will be 30 bux a month. if its a regular phone 15 bux a month .the data plan has no contract to worry about

To answer your question, you don't have to change your plane if you are going to get a new phone, you will get your rebate if you order through us at no commitment pricing with no data plan required, the only phone that requires the data plan is the IPHONE, so you can keep your same 3000 minute/month plan with media-net charged .01 p/ kb, hope that helps
