I have verizon and i live in Indiana. I have a teenage daughter that lives in West Virginia. I got her a phone for christmas the MOTOKRZR K1m . worked fine until she got back to West Virginia. She dials a number from the phone book or dials it manualy with a 1 area code then the number. The phone then ask her to enter the 10 digit number and don't hit send before it will dial any numbers. We tried tech support but they said since it wasn't a verizon tower that she was connected to that they couldn't help.

Not sure if this will help, but for us in California, we don't need to dial the "1" before the 10 digit number, simply the area code and phone number works. I input the area code with all my contacts and then can speed dial them wherever I happen to be.
We live in an area of CA where there are 4 or 5 area codes within a short distance, so we really need the area code attached to the phone numbers. HTH,

Not sure what's happening then; we've taken our phones out of state and had no issues like that. Is she on Nationwide plan or America's choice? Or is it locally based where you bought the phone?

Dialing that many digits and require by ALL phones (landlines included) now in WV since they just added the new area code to the state. You won't get charged long distance but it you don't type in all the numbers your call will not go through
