1. If i connect to the web thru my WIFI am I charged for it?
2. Why can't I connect to the 3G network - this was an upgrade of an older phone I had, do I need to upgrade the sim card?
3. When i connect to the 3G network (eventually) is surfing and email unlimited?
Any help is much appreciated!

1. That depends on the owner of the WiFi network. While using WiFi, you are simply using a built-in function of the phone, not AT&T's airtime. For example, if you are in a Starbucks coffee shop, you can use the WiFi there for free. If you can connect to the WiFi at a given location and not see a page that mentions being charged, then you won't be, well, charged. Sometimes, you might have to register or sign in, but you won't be charged unless you are asked for a credit card.
2. You should have received a new SIM card with the iPhone. Are you sure that there's 3G service at your location? If so, you'll see the "3G" symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. If you see this symbol, but can't connect, then you need to take the iphone to either the AT&T store or the Apple store and have it checked. Check AT&T's coverage map to see if you have 3G service in your area.
3. That depends on the data service you signed up for. There is an unlimited plan available. I absolutely recommend the unlimited plan for iPhone owners. Yes, it's expensive. You have a Big Boy toy ,now, expect to pay Big Boy prices for the Big Boy experience.
Hope this helps,

That answers my questions.I spent an hour and a half at ATT for them to "activate my phone" and they still could not do it, so far im not impressed and should have stayed with tmobile. they had to call a machine that said they needed to talk to a sales rep.well they were the sales rep and still didnt know what to do.some training they had! what a mess. so finally after they spent a good 30 mins on the phone with their own customer serivce line, the guy said he'll have to send this info to his boss who'll need to send it to his boss to get it authorized.ARE YOU KIDDING ME.CLICK THE F*CKING BUTTONS AND JUST FIX IT! AT&T is a joke!

Well, for one (and I've heard this a few times, even from a buddy of mine. I had to inform him of how to do it), They don't activate the iPhone per se.
They set up your account in their system. Then you take the phone home, install iTunes, then connect the iPhone to iTunes and let it activate AT HOME ON YOUR COMPUTER. No buttons to push, no salesman dicking around with your phone.
The activation probably got hosed up because of it being dicked with and the system seeing a problem. They should have reset your account, then let you take the iPhone and activate it there.
