Hello, i have AT&T which im pretty sure has Asurian or whatever for their insurance. ok so i baught a new cell phone on christmas and dropped it in the toilet the day after. there wasnt insurance on it. so what i did was use an old cell phone with the same sim card to call the insurance company to ask for insurance on the phone i had just baught and accidently destroyed(didnt tell them that tho). so they had to call the phone i was on to make sure it works. now can they tell that the phone i was talking to them on wasnt my new phone via the imei number or something? i want to get a new phone but i dont really wanna get in trouble.
Yes, They can tell. try letting the phone dry out a few days. it may work again.

What it sounds like you're suggesting is probably considered insurance fraud. Yes, they can tell what kind of damage was done (all mobile phones have water damage indicators inside them) and they will look at the IMEI of the phone that you started the insurance policy with.
In other words, don't try it. At best they will simply deny you any payment, at worst they could prosecute.
