I have an older (4-5 yrs old) but light use v3 razr phone, the original battery had gone out and i replaced it with a B50 motorola battery i got off amazon but beyond that nothing else has changed or been altered by me.
Cingular is who i got it thru and att bought them out or whatever so i did get them to update the phone sim card to att to try and get newest update for phone to get newest towers but still no good.
Wifes phone is same (bought same time) if i stick my sim into her phone bam all is good full bars even in the house, i tried her battery in mine (thinking that was it maybe since I had replaced it) but nope, my sim my phone her battery i still get no bars.
I have never used an external antenna, never dropped it, no water damage, actually little use overall, so it has me stumped as to what is causing it.
I am handy and can take it apart to confirm check or replace things, but what might i need to look at or replace in this thing to possibly try to get it working again?
I did go into att to see about a replacement, i bought a cheap demo stick phone which i HATE but was only $25 and does work with my sim for full bars in house and around town, yet i want my razr working!
They said to get a new one id have to sign up for a new plan and lose my grandfathered plan or buy a new phone outright (I think it was close to $250-300 range tho).
So im willing to put some time and a few bucks into tryin to fix this one if possible.
A google search talked about folks who tried using external antennas messing their reception up by it breaking something inside, but I have never tried anything like that so doubt i broke something in there.
Any suggestions or ideas greatly appreciated.

I should say i have also tried removing battery, turning on and off (waiting a few mins between) and a few various other things (using wifes battery, confirming sim does work in her razr and my stickphone etc.
My razr isn't fully dead, it seems to work "sometimes" if i'm out and about on the road etc i take a peek and sometimes i do even still get full bars but its hit or miss.
Even with wifes phone in hand (same model bought same time) side by side compaired while around town at home etc, sometimes shes full bars im zero, yet sometimes we are both full bars etc. If i swap sims or batteries whatever i do its my razr phone that acts up regardless of battery or sim used so at least i have done all i can to confirm its the phone iteself, now for hopefully some fix ideas.
