To create ringtones in MPT, you must enable mp3 encoding in windows (it is disabled by default). First, the standard warning about backing up your registry-- BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY. With that out of the way, open your registry editor (START, RUN, type "regedit" in command box) and navigate to the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Drivers32" and locate the value "msacm.l3acm" in the right-hand pane. This value is probably something like <PATH>\l3codecx.acm, or just l3codecx.acm. This is your mp3 codec, and l3codecx.acm is the decode-only version. Right-click on this value, select "modify" from the context menu and change the letter "x" to a "p"-- the new value should read "l3codecp.acm".( by the way, that's a lower-case L at the beginning, not an upper-case I).

It's not necessary, but if you like you can create a new string-value entry in HKLM\SW\Msoft\WNT\CV\driver.desc whose name is equal to the contents of the aforementioned value, i.e. <PATH>\l3codecp.acm. For the string value enter"Fraunhofer IIs MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional)". This is what will be displayed in the device manager properties window of your mp3 codec.

Now exit the registry editor, open an Explorer window, and navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and verify that the file "l3codecp.acm" exists. If not, look for "l3codeca.acm" and use that file in these instructions instead. In the unlikely event that neither exists, you will have to download the file or extract it from a Windows CD.

Restart your computer, open MPT, and create all the ringtones you want.

so, i got a new MOTOROKR E8, and i am having a LOT of trouble with the ringtones. i have motorola phone tools, and i connect with the cable. i can transfer music, and that is ok, except for that when i try and use an mp3 file as a ringtone, it is not allowed, and it either is blocked, or doesnt even show up on the list. i tried to use the melody editor, and it said i needed a codec pack. so i bought the one from motorola and avanquest, but it doesnt seem to do anything different and the ringtones still arent working. HELP PLEASE. it is driving me nuts. and i spent 8 dollars on a codec pack, which i cant work.
google prism vidio converter download it then once installed go to the nhc toolbox and get sound converter convert you ringtone as wave it will work. it not same format as used by phone for ringtone but it works. to convert to correct format you must pay for avs converter but why do that when you can get it free

Can anyone help me with MPT and my new Motorola Hint QA30? I got the latest version via update but it says that my phone is not supported. Surely Motorola has updated MPT for this phone. Am I doing something wrong?

Do you know why MPT won't recognize my Motorola Hint? I have the latest version and follow the directions. I used MPT with my Razr2 with no problems but can't with my Hint. Any suggestions?
