Our BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 browser keeps saying that we should purchase web2go to use the internet even from our home wi-fi network. The phone detects and connects to our home network successfully. However it doesn't allow any web surfing at all.
Has anyone had success connecting this phone to any wi-fi network WITHOUT any additional subscription or packages? If any one has done so, can you please post the steps to configure the phone and our wireless router? (Netgear).
I plan to return if this isn't possible and I only have 10 more days to do so.
Thank you.

In the browser, I went to Options, then General Properties to change the default browser from t-zones to Hotspot.

it should work then in theory. i know blackberry has a data plan requirement because its the way the phone was designed. it should still work on wifi thought no problems. have you restarted the phone since selecting hotspot?

WiFi works with the HotSpot Browser. Thanks to all responses.
But, NONE of the applications such as GMail, Yahoo, Windows Live etc are functional. I'm able to download and install those applications over WiFi, but none of them work; the applications complain that I don't have a 'working internet connection' or something similar to that effect.
However, I was able to download Opera Mini and was able to surf various websites.
What has been your experience?

I have been able to surf on my wifi. I was excited about it the first couple days, but it is such a pain, and half the pages don't load, so I stopped using it. It also doesn't remember my log in all the time, so I was constantly logging in to post on message boards, etc.
I basically only use it to check my gmail when I am on the go and have wifi.
You are correct that most applications don't work because a data service is required, even with the wifi active.
I set up a filter in my gmail to automatically forward emails to my phone, (your number@tmomail.net) so that my family members emails come through as texts wherever I am. It has been pretty useful. I have the 400 messages a month. I originally just forwarded all my gmail to the phone, but that was way too many incoming, so I filtered it down to just my most important people.

Downloaded Windows Live Mobile for BB; choose Connection as "Direct HTTP" as opposed to "BES/MDS". It then works. Google and Yahoo and others don't have this option in their Mobile Apps. Hope this helps someone.
