New to the board with a basic question. I'm a current AT&T customer eligible for an upgrade (past my 2 year contract) and I'd like to get a phone that has wifi accessibility so I can get onto the Internet. I'd like to avoid getting a data plan (so that eliminates the iPhone) and only use the wifi when I'm obviously near a hot spot. Any suggestions on a phone to buy? I'd consider porting my number over to Verizon (or possibly Sprint or T-Mobile). Thanks for your help.

Does anybody know if there is any way to get service through At&T on an Iphone and not have to pay for the additional Apple $30 data service and still get wi-fi? Basicly I want to use it as a Itouch but with a phone.

Can I use the iphone as a itouch (ipod) until a later date when i decide that i want to get the service. Also will the wi-fi work on it without the service?

for the iphone to work it must be activated i have heard of people using it just as ipod but only after the phone had been activated and than deactivated when the phone was bought at full retail price

Wait, can't he just buy an unlocked phone and use the wifi for free? Go under the nose of att.
