I currently have an LG Vu with the $10/mth unlimited data plan. I am thinking of buying a Blackberry Bold through ebay.
Will my unlimited data plan still work on the Bold? I know some features like e-mail or blackberry messenger might not, but will I be able to surf the net or must I buy the $30 blackberry service?

to use a blackberry you would need to have a bb data plan or all you are going to do is voice calls and sms

But if ATT doesn't know that I switched to a BB, then shouldn't it work?

Without the data plan it basically is a phone. Why get such a device if you are not going to use it for what it is designed for. I think that is just ridiculous. You will not be able to download games, ringtones, graphics, wallpapers; no email; no picture messages; no IM; no PIN 2 PIN messaging; etc, etc

the diffrence in a blackberry and a normal phone is the monthly data plan you pay for the blackberry is for your wireless provider to provide you a link to the blackberry data system most of that fee goes to blackberry as blackberry controls the all the data on the blackberry
