Can someone explain how T-Mobile can justify requiring a 2 year contract extension just so I can add the G1 data plan? I bought my G1 last year so I'm already 6 months into my 2 year contract. I actually turned off the data plan last month but realized I miss it, so when I called to have it turned back on they said only if I renew my 2 year contract! ?
I can understand starting a new contract when you upgrade your phone because they give a huge discount for the phones.but in this case I'm not getting anything for agreeing to a 2 year contract.

Except for 6 more months of fantastic service. I don't understand why people freak out over contract extensions so much. Do you plan on switching carriers? You will still be able to upgrade your phone after a year from when you did your last upgrade, which you probably will so then you'll have to extend your contract anyways. So quit whining.

You should not have had to do that. Call cs and ask some questions.

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about.
When I wanted to buy the G1, they were only allowing people who were past 22 months into their current contract. I have never heard of or seen a separate date for "last phone upgrade".
Also, as a matter of fact, yes I am thinking about switching to Verizon next year because my work does business with them and we write software for their phones. So I get a big discount with them. Verizon has said they plan on getting an Android based phone or even maybe an iphone by next year, so I don't think its fair to extend my contract another 6 months.
I'm not whining, simply asking why this is justified.

I'm afraid I do know what I'm talking about. I've been with t-mobile for 10 years and have worked for them as well.
If you get a big discount with Verizon go for it. Try to find someone that wants to get a t-mobile phone and transfer the account to their name. You don't have to pay a cancellation fee, they get t-mobile, everyone is happy =^)

" So quit whining. "
That says all you need to know about T-mobile customer service. Nice way to represent a company.

I don't work for them any more so I'm not representing anybody. Although, my sentiments are what cust service representatives wish they could say to some people.
