Is there a way to use my Erickson i580 as a "Modem" using bluetooth to connect to the internet. Sort of like the old telephone access days?

you can use it as a bluetooth modem but you would also need to add a teathering plan and setup the phone as a modem on the computer you are connecting it to and may need to get a device driver from sony

Just to add onto Cptech31's response, if you can avoid tethering with a Bluetooth by all means do so. Why? Cus nothing is better than a true connection. Visit Sony's website or call 866-766-9374 for more info, they may even have a data cable for sale.
