This question has almost started wars between nations.
Before you consider getting an iPhone, it's VITAL that you check with AT&T and other iPhone users in your area on the availability of both phone coverage and 3G data coverage. This is paramount to the iPhone experience. And as happy as I am with my iPhone and my AT&T experience, they are known for selling phones in area where coverage isn't so good. Actually, that's not quite a fair statement, and I'll agree that it is up to the user to determine how good coverage is where they intend to use the phone.
I'd stay away from the various forums on AT&T and about the iPhone, or at least take them with the proverbial grain of salt. People that are happy with their service don't scream about it from the streets and the mountaintops like unhappy people do, and so far, the unhappy iPhone people act like their first-born children were snatched from the arms when discussing their issues.
The smart way to go about this is to make sure that the phone coverage and 3G service in your area is sufficient. Then simply get an iPhone and sign up for service. You have 30 days to return the equipment and cancel the service (and pay the restocking fee, of course) if it's not working out for you.
And finally, if you're a diehard Blackberry person, you might not care for the "Apple Doctrine" of doing things. While I'm not a Mac guy at all, I do love my iPhone. I've even got rid of iPhones thinking I'd find something better, only to realize that I missed the iPhone and went back to it. I'm sticking with it this time for good (I think).
I understand from BB users that the Storm is a very good phone as well. Just a different animal from the iPhone. Helpful, eh?.)
Good luck, Geri O

I am very happy with the iPhone. The apps, how it syncs, etc. However, I don't enjoy the poor cell coverage that I have with ATT. I also miss the direct keyboard on my BB. I am not able to enter characters as accurate and fast as on my BB. You may want to consider holding off on the iPhone until Verizon offers it.

That may not happen as quickly as the Verizon heads would have everyone to believe. Apple so far (that I know of) hasn't indicated any intentions of completely re-designing the iPhone's radio to work on the CDMA network.
As I said, you won't see people that are satisfied with AT&T, as I am, running to the computers prclaiming their satisfaction. Do your homework on your area.
