Alright guys, I'm a composer and have some music I want to use as ringtones on my new Samsung Intensity (U450, I believe?).
I've done some searching on Google as well on Samsung's own website. I can load mp3s onto my phone and onto the memory card just fine. It works perfectly using Samsung PC Studio 3 and the supplied USB cable.
Unfortunately, because Verizon hates us, "only mp3s downloaded using Verizon's [blahblahblah] can be used as ringtones."
Well, that doesn't fly with me
Now I'm sure that someone here has found, or will be able to find, a way around this.
Thanks in advance for the help, guys!

Try finding the software to clip the mp3 down to a 20 to 30 second file, and see if you can convert it to a .wav file and email it to your mobile number @ vzwpix.com. Then try to save the sound as a ringtone. Not sure, since this phone is new, if it'll work. There should be software out there to do this, google searching was the right answer. Best of luck

The e-mail trick does work. I tried it earlier with my new Samsung Intensity. It makes me a little nervous, though, sending my custom ringtones through Verizon. perhaps I'm simply being a bit too paranoid. But yeah, it did work.

I've been playing with my Intensity for a few days now and found three options so far. As mentioned before the files must be small (20 sec. or less) Not sure that is a firm number but large files don't work.
1. Send to yourself as text message with MP3 file as attachment.
2. Use files with mid extension.
3. Use files with amr extension. (a free converter can be found by doing a search for amr to mp3 conversion)
After conversion (to mid or amr) the files can be copied to the my_ringtones sub directory of the internal disk, then moved to the phone as ringtone.
So far I haven't found a free way to use MP3 files (but I'm not giving up)

I tried to post a request with a quote of one of the above posts but got an error message.
I am a 54 yr old man who has no clue how you go about converting these files or gettting them to my phone. Will one of you younger folks take pity on an old fogey and explain in small simple words how to do this? Or direct me to a ste that will? I'm not dense or even unintelligent just never had the option to do this before.
Thank you.

Try google searching for a program to convert mp3 to .wav files. There are multiple programs that do this. Or better yet search for the sound clip for the mp3 you want as a ringtone. Try to make sure the file size isn't bigger than a couple MB. Email the sound clip as an attachment to your full phone number@vzwpix.com. If the sound clip comes through as a pix message you should be able to save it to your ringtones folder, just open the message and hit options. Some older phones don't bear this option, so best of luck.
