Has anyone done a comparison of the v200 and v205? I see that the v200 has digital zoom and the v205 does not. I know that the v205 is the model made for the U.S. and that Samsung won't cover a v205 under warranty in the U.S. I am considering purchasing a v200 or v205 and don't know all the differences. Also I am looking into the Panasonic GD-87. I do have a digital camera already but many times it's not with me and I would like to take a pic. Update---This is what I got from a guy who offers to change v205 software to v200 The V200 has 20 X digital zoom feature, 11 X brightness level adjustable, remove stand-by text (OP-logo, Time and data display), Enable MMS and Wap setting menu (allow user to change the setting for other networks), Upload picture via IR link to any PC (No need to send picture through internet) and SIM unlocked.

If i buy a unlocked v205 in the US, can i use it in europe without any problems?? And a good-working camera? icon_smile.gif

Hello Nielsned,

I have an unlocked V205 (formerly T-Mobile) and love it. The languages I have on the phone (standard) are: English, Espanol, Francais, and an Automatic setting ???

The V205 has a pretty good camera but doesn't have the zoom feature included in it's software. To get the zoom you will need to flash to V200. The programs and instruction information have been posted on this board and others. You can also buy pre-packaged cd's on e-bay. The zoom feature is only a digital manipulation of the image and not a physical change to the camera though.

The data cable was not included with the phone. I purchased an OEM cable on e-bay for about $40.00 U.S. it included the flash programs and a boat load of images and ring tones.

I'm sure someone else on the board can chime in about its use in europe.

My only gripe that I have with the phone is that my provider (AT&T), which had the best GSM plan for my area seems to have the weakest signal at my home. The phones reciever isn't exactly stellar with a weak signal.

Hope this helps,

-Crispy

Hello crispy,

I've another question, if i flash my 205 to 200 i'll get a zommcamera, but do i get other languages ( i need Dutch ) or can i download a languagepacket or something???? What more do i get if i flash my phone?
And why doesn't the 205 have a zoomcamera? is it locked by T-mobile?

I bought a 205 (unlocked) yesterday on the internet and i will take him next week to Europe. I hope it will works fine there...

What do i need to flash my phone? Only datacable? ( and the software offcourse) or do i need a special cable? Because i really want to heave the zoomcamera!

Thank a lot from Belgium

Nielsned,
I'm not sure if you will get additional languages. I have not flashed my V205 to V200 yet. I have handled a phone that was but didn't think to check the languages though icon_redface.gif . I am waiting to see if AT&T will cary the Samsung V206 (same phone, and is currently in the rumor mill as a strong possibility). I use SMS messaging quite a bit and have heard that the 200 is limited to 70 characters but have not yet found out if that is for both sending and recieving or recieving only. SMS Text msging is more important that the zoom feature for me right now.
I have heard that the features of the 200 allow easier WAP setting and GPRS setting changes and you can remove the operator logo and date and time features more easily.
Also there is a pino feature ??? and various other minimal changes.
As far as the cable goes, I had read on another board that there are two types of cables a Data only and a Data Flash cable. I have heard conflicting reports as to wether the data Only cable (often a generic cable) will allow phone to flash. I stuck with the OEM from a source selling out of US via Hong Kong. The shop name was trading_shop if you do a search on e-bay you will find a couple of cables and just check the sellers.
This has been the best source of information for the cell phone but I have found some info at a nokiafree.org site if that helps.

I'm sorry not to have much more info, but I hope this helps.
