And the USB software will be available when? Samsung keeps wanting to use a port instead of USB in their software

You can use a usb to serial driver for the programs that uses com ports.

For this USB cabel making a sotware a MA Inc. .. & working good 100%
On The Web site (the moderator in this forum stopped ) You finding the information this product on the WEB (Easy GPRS progs runing & logo,melody,transfer is work, file manager )
I Want just Good for the forum peoples (It Isn't marketing Guys)
But I Dont mean for this cable good for firmware flashing or not ..

No ! You Cant must USB-To Serial driver for this !!!!
Before Installing The Handset Manager for the ma-8220(usb) cabel You can installing specific >>>USB Device Driver for MA-8xxx serials ( Except MA-8820C USB Cable )

To use "A" USB cable for Easy Studio or EasyGPRS all you need is a USB to SERIAL Driver.

Can you get a driver for any USB cable, or does it need to be cable-specific? I'm thinking of getting a USB cable to upload and download firmware. Can I do this with a USB cable and driver?

Yes ...it need to be cable-specific USB driver ..it find on the MA homepage ,
& refreshed this driver time to time ..
The firware upload ?? I dont know this . a Litle bit dangerous , dont you ?

Ma- Handset Manager(with the file manager,rings ,pictures up/re loading support working )100% EasyGprs to ..
The Samsung EasyStudio PIMS & File Manager , just the tel book,and the sms .. working ..
