Hi:
I do not yet have a cell phone but with the great deals I'm thinking of getting one and going w/ T-Mobile. I want to get the $19.99/month basic plan plus the T-Zone unlimited $4.99/month. My question is this: will I be charged individual airtime minutes (off my 60 anytime minutes/500 weekend minutes) for each minute while connected to the T-Zone (in addition to the $4.99/month)?
Thanks

no, you don't have any additional charge
19.99 unlimited GPRS is "all you can eat" internet access
just one thing to consider, you may not able to receive any voice call when you're online (like dial-up), the call will be transferred to voicemail, and data transfer will be suspended when you make a call

Hi:
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
I was asking about the $4.99 Unlimited T-Zone service add-on (not the $19.99 Unlimited Internet). I've been looking around the T-Mobile web site and found this link:
http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz/rateinfo.asp
which talks about their billing per MB downloaded (vs. minutes). But, I guess what's confusing me is the "unlimited" in the name of the service (which I would assume means I have unlimited access with no additional charges). But, the wording suggests I've misunderstood their use of the term, "unlimited." So, do they charge $4.99/month (in addition to $19.99 for basic phone service), plus x amount for number of MB downloaded? Or do they charge $4.99/month, plus take away from my airtime minutes alloted to my phone plan (in this case, 60 whever minutes and 500 weekend minutes)?
Thanks

Hi:
I've also found the following web page which I'm reading and trying to understand. This makes it sound like unlimited web browsing is included in all plans w/ WAP enabled phones.
I guess I need to keep reading and learning.

I have 19.99 GPRS addon
and I used hundreds of MB every month, still 19.99
is it good enough for unlimited?
if you just use for some web and email, 4.99 should be good enough
but if you use AOL instant messenger, MSN, or GPRS access from pda or pc, you need 19.99 plan, which provides COMPLETE access (real internet), which you can use IM software, real audio, windows media, ftp
and, if you need access secure web, 19.99 plan is your ONLY option

I got family plan with unlimited internet activated. (the 19.99 plan)
I've called customer support, and I was told that it is actually burning my airtime. Even I used the term "GPRS" they still said, yes it'll still burn airtime. (only time not burning airtime is if you have weekend free and nighttime free, and when you are actually in those time frame, I was told.)
Yet, this URL http://www.t-mobile.com/info/inc_services/importantinfo.asp says:
| Quote: | | Ability to use T-Mobile Internet depends on GPRS device capability and connection to our GPRS network. Ability to use some Sidekick functions depends on your connection to the GPRS network. When using a non-GPRS device, or when not connected to the GPRS network (due to unavailability in your location or other reason), you may be able to connect to a GSM network and you will be billed airtime (and any other applicable) charges for your use. You will be charged for all data sent by or to you through the network whether or not received. Any fraction of a megabyte used will be rounded up and charged as two (2) kilobytes. Not responsible for content of messages or attachments transmitted. |
I mean...what should I believe now?
Is this tech support not understanding what really GPRS is?
Does anyone have "real life" experience? (haven't gotten my first bill yet, so I'm not too sure if I should be using it more or stop it now...)

I called the store with same question.
After having review my account information and such, their answer was no.
According to them, it won't burn the airtime.
Wao....it seems like their customer support is not very educated.
I've had same kind of inconsistency when I was talking with customer service and tech support about Unlimited Internet and WAP (customer service person told me that I cannot using phone's built in browser.
Tech support said I can and provided me with appropriate setting for doing it.
