I will tell you how to make your own voice ringtones however before you begin you should know that your phone will not take anything larger than 40 kbs.
The programs that I use:
1. Audacity
2. Cool Edit Pro
3. Windows Sound Recorder
4. .Wav to SMAF converter (can be found by searching on google for "SMAF Yamaha" and it should be in the tools section of the site)
Now lets begin:
1. Just take any mp3 file that you want and open it up in Audacity and magnify the part that you want and select it. The selected part should be no longer than 10 seconds or else it will go over the maximum 40kbs. After selecting it go to file and choose save selection as .wav.
2. Open up Windows Sound Recorder and open the file then increase the volume by 50%-75% and save it.
3. Open up cool edit pro and open the file now go to edit and convert sample rate, you have to set it to 8 khz, 16 bit mono, or else the SMAF converter won't convert the file. After you're done converting go to the Noise Reduction Option and press the get profile selection button and set the Noise Reduction level to 6 and save.
4. Final step, open the SMAF converter and drag and drop the .wav file into the converter and your .mmf ringtone should appear.
I hope this helps you and I will post some of the ringtones that I made myself here. |

This is good advice, thx.
The samples that someone posted up are cool. What I don't get is how the Venga Boys 'Boom boom boom' track is nearly 30 seconds long but is still under the 40K limit.
How did they acheive this.
Cheers

New Advance in Technology: You no longer need to downsize your sample rate (which greatly hurt quality) using sound recorder. The new Wav to SMAF converter will convert from ANY wav samplerate. This will lessen the chance of it sounding like you were trying to make a ringtone while landing a helicopter over a nextel phone. .mmf are also much better than midi files because they allow the integration of vib and led. Although this is very hard to do when converting from a wav, it def improves the file when converting from a midi. (Who got the stupid idea to make it vibrate BEFORE it rings and not DURING ) Also, newer phones only support 32K rings, as stated, unless they are hacked...

Having E8x0 u can upload up to 240 kB ringtones. E8x0 support MA-5 smaf, that means u can use wave up to 24 kHz (for mono) for creating smaf-file.
How it sounds like?
Check it here http://dr-smaf.nm.ru
For listening use Samsung E8x0 or Yamaha SMAF Sound Decorator!

Hi,
I followed your directions and created the mmf file for my ringtones. I've been trying to send it to my Samsung e105 phone but have been unsuccessful. The mail goes into the picture mail folder; but it does not seem to acknowledge the mmf file. I keep getting message "Attachment Dropped." If you tell me your e-mail, I will send you the mmf file (4 kb), and can you review it to tell me what I might have done wrong? Thanks.

Never mind my last post. I figured out how to use my IrDA port, and that works out great. Your directions were excellent, and I was able to create my own ring tones.
For other users, I highly suggest the "Hiss Reduction" feature on Cool Edit Pro (vs. Noise Reduction). Noise Reduction seems to take some of the sound quality away; but Hiss Reduction keeps the sound quality while getting rid of some of the background "scratches."
