So, to help those that might not already know -- like I didn't just a few minutes ago.
If you have a bluetooth enabled phone (mine is a v551) you can connect to your phone and are presented with, among other things, an OBEX File Transfer folder. If you right click a preview link of an mp3 ringtone site and save file to your PC, then simply copy it to your phone's OBEX File Transfer/audio folder; then go and assign a ringtone to an address entry, it works. I know this must be basic for many, but for a newbie such as me, this wasn't so obvious.
There was a ringtone.db file of somekind, now it doesn't appear to be there and I'm not sure if I've broken something .. we'll see ..
Next is to learn how those mp3's get moved to where ever the phone has been storing the original ringtones.
greetings.

Has anybody had success using the wired cable w mobile Phonetool that exist for the V600. I have tried the composer that comes with the tool - I can reate a MP3 file using it, but I cannot transfer it afterwards - it is sufficient to simply transfer the file?

I tried putting a mp3 file on my website and sending the URL in a text message to my phone, then selected 'GO TO' on the phone to get the mp3 file.
However, I get a 500 Server Error when I try to do this. I think it is downloaded though, because I get a 'bytes downloaded' message, just no file. The file is 236kb.
I am using the 'pay per use' for internet surfing on cingular. I was able to get a ringtone before, and surf a few other sites successfully.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well I think I finally figured it out.
The mp3 samples from walmart have too many .'s (dots) in them, so my phone didn't know what to do with the file. I am not sure how many kb I used up dl'd it but oh well.
I just renamed the file and put it on my own website for download and it worked just fine.

Thanks guys... this thread gave me a great idea:
1. save the preview mp3
2. put it on my website
3. visit my site with my phone browser
4. download the ringtone
it's that simple... AND IT WORKS!!!
no need to buy a bluetooth USB adapter, although I'd still like one
well actually it didn't work first time.. got a 404. but i reduced the file size to 204kB and it worked. experiment... and post what u learn. why should we pay 2 pounds for a ringtone.... set music free!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it does both sending and receiving. Depending on your provider, the price ranges.

is three way to download free songs to a i736 or an i730 cell phone. My friend was able to bring a cd with songs on it nd have this place download the actual song (with voice) to her phone - however the person that did this is no longer there. I was told by NextTel that there was software out on the internet (they said I needed to download three different ones all free) but they didn't tell me the name of the software. Can anyone point me in the right direction????

For those receiving the Corrupt File message....
Most newer songs and Cd's are encoded to prevent people from using the songs and selling them as ringtones without copyrights. The best way to fix this is to use a voice recorder on your phone or computer to record your ringtone and then convert it to MP3 again.
