I'm also in the same boat. I want to get sony ericsson p990i and use it with CIngular. If I can find a way to change frequency of that phone, I'll go ahead and buy it.
Please guide me through the steps or to the appropriate thread.

Generally speaking, it is not possible to change the frequency of the phone by just flashing the software. E715/E710 is a very special case where the design of the phone is a tri-band 900/1800/1900 but the firmware disable one band to make it either E710 (900/1800), the European/Asia version or E715 (900/1900) the international version. E710 and E715 basically share the same hardware and that is why you can change the firmware to change it from E710 to E715 or E715 to E710.

As for p990i, it is a tri-band 900/1800/1900 phone. 900/1800 are for Europe/Asia and 1900 for N. America. Cingular support both 850/1900. Unless your local Cingular use 850 only, you should have no problem with p990i working in 1900 only.

Any geniuses in this forum?!?!?! I have been reading on this and some people say its possible and some say its not! Does anyone know of anyone that has the ability to change a dual band phones frequency so that it will work in the United States? I am aware that it would be more cost effective to just buy a compatible phone, but I want what I want, and what I want is an asian phone and I need to use it here in the states! I am absolutely willing to pay for this service, I and many others, are just trying to find someone out there with the talent to do this! Anyone?!?!?!

OK, I'm kind a weird now.

I made some research in the web and and came across another forum.
Some people said, they flashed their Samsung E715 to a E710 which means a change of the frequencies.

I always thought this is impossible due to some limitations by the hardware?

Most Samsung phone you can change frequecny by flashing BUT for Nokia phone it require a hardware mod.

E715 flash to e700 and you got 900 Mhz.

1100 flash with Europe firmware and filter change or jumper than use 900 Mhz.

I have tested them both.

Hi, could you please give me your contact email. We might have some business proposals for you if we can change Nokia's frequency.

The transceiver of a cell is a hardware device and frequency is probably set by the baseband or modem firmware, it is also possible that the frequency is locked by the transceiver piece of hardware.
