Hiya. I've just ordered a 7250i on orange and reading through these forums ive seen i get can firmware updates from certain Nokia points for free. Firstly do i need to belong to club nokia to use this, and secondly, how can i find out where my nearest shops are.

No, the Club Nokia membership is not requiered. A firmware upgrade is part of the warranty.
You can find your nearest Nokia Care Centre here:

One more question, are there any useful freeware apps anyone can recommend or a cheap place to buy some (+games).

I know one site where you can download tons of free games and applications but you need to have WAP or GPRS enabled in your phone.

Firmware upgrades can only be done at an authorised Nokia service centre...you cannot download it to your phone yourself...
