I recently purchased a Samsung e715 and I'm trying to hook it up to my Mac, mostly to download pictures and upload ringtones.
When I bought the phone, I was looking for one with Bluetooth, but I was willing to live without it because the e715 seemed to have so many other great features. I also figured it would be simple enough for me to buy a cable and just synch it to my computer. WRONG!! Since I got the phone, I've been searching for ways to do this, but the lack of any sort of information has been extremely frustrating. It's like Samsung users haven't even heard of a Mac (and please, for God's sake, don't start a Mac vs. PC flame war)!
Here are the options I've found & the problems I'm encountering:
1) Mostly what's been recommended is buying a serial cable from Samsung. The problems there are first, I don't want to spend $50 - $70 on a cable (that's more than I paid for the phone!); plus, it's a SERIAL cable, and Macs don't have serial ports. I've got a serial to USB connector from an old Palm cradle, but I don't think they ever released drivers for it for OS X. And on top of all THAT, I know the EasyGPRS is Windows only. I've got Virtual PC, but I'm doubtful that the EasyGPRS software would be able to recognize the phone in a Virtual environment. Has anyone tried this?
2) Everyone else recommends synching via IrDA. I've got an iBook and a G4 tower, and neither have IrDA ports. I'd consider getting an IrDA USB adapter, but I've so far been unable to confirm which, if any IrDA adapters work with a Mac. And again, I've a feeling that EasyGPRS and VPC might have a problem recognizing the IrDA device.
3)The third option is to just subscribe to the T-Zones WAP service, but I'm on a budget, and I really can't justify spending $20 a month just for some pictures & ringtones. Besides, I've heard that the picture quality really degrades when sending photos via WAP. The only way to maintain their original integrity is to download them directly from the phone.
If there are ANY Mac users out there who've had success with connecting an e715 (or compatible) phone with your Mac, PLEASE POST A REPLY!!! I'll love you forever.

I am having the same problem. I just got my 715, and tried to beam phone #'s from my Palm Pilot (model m500) to the phone. No luck, it's almost as if the Palm doesn't even see the phone. I also want to upload pix to my Powerbook G3 Pismo (has an irda port) as well as create my own ringtones (all the factory tones are AWFUL, can't phones just ring or beep anymore?) and it's looking like I may just shell out the cash for a data kit, unless some solutions turn up. I'll post if I find anything.

Let me know if the data cable even works with a Mac. I have some nagging suspicions that it won't.

Update:
Well, I tried to use Samsung Mobile Utility X 1.0b4 (found it on macupdate.com) with my E715 and OS 10.2.8. The software uses the IR port, and recognized the phone and pictures list, and it allowed me to download the pix to my Mac, but kept dropping the connection to the phone, even when it was right in front of the IR port. Then, when I tried to open the downloaded pix (appearing as JPEGs in the Finder), the Preview app would open, but not the pix! Back to square one...
So, I bought the USB Data Cable (only $16 on -edited-, but of course, it came with PC software) and the computer recognizes the cable (in System Profiler), but not the phone. The phone beeps when I plug in the cable, but the display doesn't change or anything. I've got a driver for the cable that's supposed to work for Macs, but I don't know how to install it or where to put it in OS X. (I threw a copy of it into my OS 9 Extensions Folder and restarted, but still nothing, even in OS 9.) Which folder do I put it in?
Ultimately, the cable may be suspect as well, because I also bought a USB to AC adapter that would let me charge the phone from a household outlet using the USB cable, and the phone doesn't respond to being plugged in with it. I may just install the PC software onto my girlfriend's old laptop just to get these pix off my phone (I've only got about 5k of free memory left!). If anyone has any idea how to get either the USB cable or the Mobile Utility software to work properly, I'd love to hear it. And if anyone has the cable and would like the driver to see if they can get it to work, respond through this thread and I'll send it to you.
My ultra-cool phone is starting to lose cool points.
