It looks like some of this information is getting a little stale, so for anyone reading this currently here's the settings I got from this site:
Cingular Internet Settings
There's no more use of a "proxy" and obviously you don't have to have the "home page" set.
And remember all fields are case sensative (so don't type anything in between brackets) and the APN has to be in lower case, and username and passwords in upper case.
There's comments that the username and password can be left blank or have to include "at least this or that text" but just copy what is written down here. It's a little modified version of what the moderator typed all those years ago.
Using GPRS (aka Wireless Internet Express)
Function Setting
Settings Name: Cingular Wireless Internet Express
Home Page: http://device:home or http://device.home
Session Mode: Permanent
Connection Security: On
APN: wap.cingular
(lower case)
PDP_Type: IP
Gateway IP Address: {blank}
Authentication Type: Secure
Login Type: Automatic
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
(All upper case)
Password: CINGULAR1
(All upper case)
