(Cross posted in the Nokia forum)
Here's the thing... My boyfriend went to Malaysia on vacation and picked up a Nokia 6600 while he was there.... But it is not yet supported here in America, so finding help is almost impossible....
After much searching we finally came across the settings we needed for his phone, and he said I could post them here, in case anyone else is going through the same thing...
| Quote: | Cingular Wireless GPRS Settings for Nokia 6600
Or any other Nokia phone that has the same menu
Alright, Googling for months has not helped, but this has.
I'm putting this here, because I've seen a lot of people ask in forums for Cingular Wireless settings for this very Nokia.
It is still easier to get the message sent to you though. The message automatically configures everything for you.
Menu-> Tools-> Settings->Connection ->Access Points
Create a New Access Point;
Name: Cingular MMS, or Cingular GPRS, whatever.
Data Bearer: GPRS
Access point name: wap.cingular
User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Prompt password: No
Password: CINGULAR1
Authentication: Secure
Homepage: http://www.infospace.com/infow.sbcw/wml11/index.wml#main (I think Cingular recommends http://mmsc.cingular.com , but it doesn't seem to open for me)
Connection Security: Off
Session Mode: Permanent
Under Advanced Settings:
Phone IP address: Automatic
Primary name server: 0.0.0.0
Secondary name server: 0.0.0.0
Proxy serv address: None
Proxy port number: 0 |
I did see another post about this, but that info didn't seem to work for us...

The only thing he can add are nameservers....

Hi to all! I just got a Nokia 6600 unlocked with Cingular as my carrier and I would like to know if someone has the GPRS configuration for it, unfortunately the settings above mentioned it doesn't work....I might be wrong.

If you didn't purchase your phone from Cingular then it won't work with any Cingular services that use the GPRS system. Beginning in November Cingular started blocking access to non-Cingular phones (those not purchased from Cingular). The network reads the serial number of your phone when you connect and compares it to serial numbers of phones "allowed" to access the network. If your phone doesn't have the "right" serial number then it just won't work, no matter what you do. If you're not roped into a contract then you should check some other companies whose networks support your phone.

I have Cingular service and have had no problem accessing the Internet and Email using unsupported GSM phones.
My current phone is a Nokia E50 and I just used the settings from the Nokia website utility.
After only a preliminary test, the only thing that isn't working at the moment is using the E50 as a modem for my laptop.
