Hi all,
Just bought a ES620 IrDA off eBay and can't for the life of me get it to work.
Does anyone have this model, or know if it's compatible with the E700?
The software it came with wouldn't auto-run, but I've installed the XP driver and have d/l Easy Studio. Easy Studio always appears offline and there seems no option to switch to IrDA in the drop down setup menu.
If it is compatible, could someone give me a simple, step by step instruction on how to start working with this thing

I to purchases the exact same IrDA (ES620) from ebay to connect my new Samsung X600 to my laptop. And I’ve been trying and trying to get it to communicate with my phone. I now the phone Ir works but I just have no way of doing a simple test to see if this IrDA adaptor actually works!! there is no option for IrDA in the easy studio setup. XP says the USB IrDA is working fine but when does XP ever say a device isn’t!!
I have a feeling this USB Ir is rubbish. I would have thought you could just sent a business card direct from the phone to your PC without using easy studio just XP, this would at least give me the reassurance that the ruddy thing actually works!! maybe you just cant do that, I dunno

the problem in my case is that it is missing files and driver wont install fully. It just installs the infrared part and not the networking part. I believe the guy who is selling them from Hong Kong is a big rip off. The s/w seems to be created at home or something.

Same problem here - I bought the adapter from Hong Kong gadgets, believing that it would work with an E700, but it doesn't.
I have tried to contact Hong Kong gadgets - firstly, they just cut and pasted the help file included on the CD's, which I had already informed them I had followed, then after a further email, they say the following:
> we can assume the IRDA is not faulty by fact that your other phone works fine with it.
>
>This leads to it being a setup problem with easystudio, it will be some personal setting >on your pc causing conflict which obviously as i do not know your system settings i >cannot advise . i can only offer advice on installation of the IRDA that we sell Not the >software made by the phone manufacturer ( samsung ) as you can understand.
The fact that Windows (not easystudio) recognises another phone (sharp gx20) indicates that all my drivers are installed correctly and the adapter is working. However, when my E700 is close to the infared adapter, there is no response from Windows XP to indicate that an infared device is communicating. It won't matter what you do with Easystudio or the virtual comm port setup, as Easystudio is only an interface for uploading/downloading information. If the adapter itself does not recognise the phone, then the problem lies with the adapter - not with any software setup.
All documentation supplied with this phone on CD refers to the MA-620 adapter, which supports IrDA Version 1.0 and Version 1.1
It is my belief that the ES-620 adapter supplied is just an IrDA version 1.0 adapter, however the samsung E700 requires IrDA V1.1
If anyone has got this working, then I will fully apologise to Hong Kong Gadgets, but on the face of it, they appear to be sending out adapters that simply are not compatible.

i'm having the same problem.
i'm trying to download data using PIMS from my laptop (with XP) to my e700.
i've read all over the web that some people can get PIMS to work via iRDA on their laptops, however some people using XP cant.
do you need to have EasyGPRS installed too? Or is that only for other samsung models?
BTW i've tried uninstalling PIMS, INternet access and image editor AND thei iRDA device all to no avail.

same problem here
i got a e700,
i purchase a infraRed USB adapter from hk, the brand is BAFO
anyway, the first time i install PIMS, it didn't even hv the option for me the select irDa
but i install it 2nd time, i can choose infra
i am using xp, it detect my fone, but when i use PIMS, it said it detect irda, but it said "cannot read message" . After a while later, my e700 infraRed will be turn off, and the status of PIMS will become 'offline'
i tried adjusting the speed of the PIMS to 57600 but doesn't work
i tried adjust the setting of the infraRed port but doesn't work either, btw i can choose between 'vishay tfd' , sigmatel 4012' and sigmatel 4000'(so far only vishay TFD can detect my fone).
i can also choose turn around time, and 'speed enabled', anyone know is there any diff between all those setting?
i really need help, thanks!

Deerek,
If you have a Bafo V6102F IrDA adapter, then it should work. If XP recognises the phone, then the problem is with the setup of EasyStudio...
The problem may be that you need EasyStudio to communicate via a comm port - not IRDA option in Easystudio. To do this, install a simple piece of software that creates a "virtual comm port". Such a utility and full instructions can be found at:
http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/~kiszka/IrCOMM2k/English/download.html
Also, next to the files you will see info entitled:
"You also need to disable wireless image transfer in "Wireless Link" (see manual)."
Click on the manual for detailed instructions for XP.
Hope this helps.
Dorian.
