I am new to the forum but i thought i would share this with the rest of the people on this forum. I emailed motorola about the v600 and cingular carrying the phone, and this is what they had to say:
Dear Trarell,
Thank you for your recent correspondence with Motorola.
Regarding your concern, we are excited about bringing the Motorola V600 to US market!
Motorola is continuously launching new products. When cellular products launch, the timelines are often defined by agreement between Motorola and the phone carrier who will be selling the product on our behalf. Because of this, the dates that we are given are not always specific.
It's our commitment that when we deliver the V600, it'll meet or exceed our customer's expectations. This requires extensive testing of the product by Motorola and AT&T Wireless. We are currently working together aggressively to complete this process to ensure exceptional quality and an unbelievable experience for all the consumers.
Although I do not currently have a specific date of availability, we do have an email where you can register on-line to be notified by email when this product is launched. Please click on the following link:
www.motorola.com/shop
I hope that this information is of use to you.
We do not have any information when this unit will be available for Cingular Wireless.
Thank you for allowing us to be of your service, if you need further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again or visit our web page (www.motorola.com).
Best Regards,
Auto-Response (Paula) 02/24/2004 02:39 PM
I guess us cingular people will just have to wait and see....

I did email Motorola about V600 phone. Guess what, I got the same message that Trarell post in this forum.
As I understand, if the Motorola V600 is unlocked, then it will work for any SIM card from any service provider that use frequency in 850/900/1800/1900. If you buy the V600 from Cingular Wireless, the phone only can be used for Cingular SIM card.
If you want to keep with Cingular Wireless service for a long run, then you can wait until Cingular carries V600. Otherwise, you better get a unlock V600 instead.
Hope my info will help.

well i did go and look at the v600 for AT&T. It looks pretty sweet!!
i tried to buy the phone with no contract for $369 but they don't sell phones to customers who don't have a contract and don't want a contract. You said that cingular can't lock the phone by law, how come AT&T can then! also, besides EBay, where can i find an unlocked v600??

Currently the V400 is unlocked with cingular service. I cannot speak for the company myself but the V600 is going to be the same. This is to support international travel with prepaid chips for customers who do not want to pay roaming rates. Motorola may be emailing back that Cingular may or may not be carrying the phone but I have heard from our sales rep we will be carrying the V600 and end of summer the V650 which is a smaller, titanium accented case, possible camera flash card capable phone. I saw the demo at our store and it was pretty cool, so rumor has it that the V600 appears end of April. The rebates given out list all sale phone but no V600, but it does list the Samsung P107 which means that comes out too, giving Cingular 2 or 3 potential camera flip phones and one with bluetooth. I can't say any of this officially as an employee but you get my drift.

Just in case you're wondering, I have an unlocked V600 and it works great in the Chicago Metro area. Very cool phone, speakerphone works great.
